Here's a step-by-step guide to installing WordPress using Softaculous in your cPanel:

  1. Log in to your web hosting account's cPanel.

  2. Locate the "Softaculous Apps Installer" section. The icon may look like a blue box with the Softaculous logo or the WordPress logo. Click on it to open Softaculous.

  3. In Softaculous, you'll see a list of available scripts. Find and click on "WordPress" to access the WordPress installation options.

  4. Click the "Install" or "Install Now" button to start the WordPress installation process.

  5. Fill in the necessary details for your WordPress installation:

    • Choose Protocol: Select "http://" or "https://" based on whether you have an SSL certificate installed. If you have an SSL certificate, choose "https://".

    • Choose Domain: Select the domain where you want to install WordPress from the dropdown menu.

    • In Directory: If you want to install WordPress in a subdirectory, enter the directory name here. To install WordPress in the root folder, leave this field empty.

    • Site Name & Site Description: Enter your website's name and a brief description. You can change these later from your WordPress dashboard.

    • Admin Username & Admin Password: Choose a strong and secure username and password for your WordPress admin account. Do not use "admin" as the username for security reasons.

    • Admin Email: Enter a valid email address where you want to receive notifications and password reset requests.

  6. You can optionally choose a different language, select a theme, or configure advanced options like database name and table prefix. However, the default settings should work for most users.

  7. Click the "Install" button at the bottom of the form. Softaculous will start installing WordPress on your selected domain.

  8. Wait for the installation to complete. Once it's done, you'll see a confirmation message with the URL of your new WordPress site and the admin login URL (usually yourdomain.com/wp-admin).

  9. Visit the admin login URL, enter your admin username and password, and log in to your WordPress dashboard to start customizing your website.

Remember to keep your WordPress installation, themes, and plugins updated for optimal performance and security.

Note for DirectAdmin users: Softaculous is available on cPanel hosting plans. DirectAdmin hosting uses SitePad as the website builder. The concepts in this article still apply, but the installation method differs.
