When your website or domain "isn't working", the cause is usually one of a handful of things, and the screen you see tells you which. This page helps you match what you see to the cause in a couple of minutes, then sends you to the full guide for the fix.
First open the site on your phone's mobile data (Wi-Fi off). If it works there, your own IP address is probably blocked: see Have I been blocked?. If it fails everywhere, check your domain in the client area: an expired or suspended domain, or nameservers that point somewhere else, take the whole site offline. An error page such as 500, 403 or "Resource Limit Is Reached" means the server is answering and the problem is in the site or the account.
1. Two quick tests first
- Try mobile data.Turn off Wi-Fi on your phone and open the site. Works on mobile data but not on your office or home connection? Your IP is probably blocked by the server firewall after repeated failed logins.
- Read what the browser shows.A page that spins and then times out, "site can't be reached" and "server not found" point to a block, the domain or DNS. A proper error page (500, 403, 503, 508) means the server is answering.
2. Match what you see to the cause
| What you see | Most likely cause | Where to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| Works on mobile data, times out on your Wi-Fi | Your IP address is blocked after failed logins | Have I been blocked? |
| "Site can't be reached" or "server not found" for everyone | The domain has expired, or its nameservers or DNS records changed | Check the domain in the client area (section 3) |
| The domain shows Grace Period or Expired in the client area | The renewal wasn't paid | Renew your domain |
| A .in domain stopped working after registration or an owner change | It is on hold until identity verification (eKYC) is done | Complete eKYC verification |
| The domain stopped after you changed the registrant email | The registrant verification email wasn't confirmed | Verification of WHOIS details |
| "Account suspended" page | The hosting has an overdue invoice | Hosting suspension guide |
| A default cPanel page instead of your site | The domain points to a server where it isn't set up: a wrong IP address, or the domain not added in cPanel | The cPanel default page |
| 500 Internal Server Error | A problem in the site's code, a plugin or .htaccess | Fix a 500 error |
| 403 Forbidden | Permissions, an .htaccess rule or a security block | Fix a 403 error |
| "Resource Limit Is Reached" or 508 | The account hit its CPU, memory or process limits | Resource Limit Is Reached |
| "Not secure" or a certificate warning | No valid SSL certificate for that name yet | SSL not working |
| The website works but email doesn't | A mail setting or DNS record, not the website | Email troubleshooting |
3. Check your domain in the client area
- Open your domains.Sign in and open Domains. Look at the status next to the domain.
- Expired or Grace Period?Renew it straight away; see Domain renewal. The website and email come back once the renewal goes through.
- Look at the Nameservers tab.Open the domain and check its nameservers. They should be your hosting nameservers, or those of the DNS provider you use (such as Cloudflare). If they changed recently, wait for the change to spread; see DNS propagation.
- Look for a verification or KYC noticeon the domain's page, and complete it if one is shown.
The DNS tab may offer Activate Free DNS or Switch to Free DNS. It changes your nameservers without copying your records, so a working website and email can stop. Change your nameservers as described in How do I change my nameservers instead.
4. When to contact support
Open a ticket if every site and service on your account fails for everyone, or if the checks above don't explain it. Include the domain, what you see (the exact error or a screenshot), when it started and what you have already tried. If you may be blocked, add your public IP address. Never send a password. Support is by 24/7 live chat and tickets; there is no phone support. For how the servers are run and what to check first, see What is your network uptime.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my website not working?
Open it on mobile data first. If it works there, your IP is probably blocked. If it fails everywhere, check whether the domain has expired or is suspended, and whether its nameservers changed. An error page such as 500, 403 or 508 means the server is answering and the problem is in the site or the account.
Why is my domain not working after I registered it?
A new domain only shows a website once its nameservers point at your hosting and the change has spread. A new .in domain also stays on hold until identity verification (eKYC) is complete. Check the domain's page in the client area for any notice.
My website works on mobile data but not on my office Wi-Fi. Why?
The server's firewall has probably blocked your office IP address after repeated failed logins, often from a device with an old saved password. Fix that device, then send your public IP address to support.
My domain expired. Will my website come back if I renew it?
Yes, if you renew during the grace period. The website and email come back once the renewal goes through. After the grace period, recovery costs more; contact support quickly.
Should I click Activate Free DNS to fix my site?
No. It changes your domain's nameservers without copying your records, which can take a working website and email offline. Correct your nameservers instead.
Still down? Open a support ticket with your domain and the exact error you see, and we will check the domain, DNS and server with you.
