What is Your Network Uptime

Uptime is the share of time your website and email can be reached. It is one of the first things people ask a hosting company about, and it's easy to answer with a big percentage. This article gives you something more useful: what actually runs on Domain India's servers to keep sites online, how to tell whether a problem is on the server or somewhere else, and what to do if your site goes down.

Key takeaways

Domain India does not publish an uptime percentage and does not offer an uptime guarantee or service credits. Our shared hosting servers run CloudLinux account isolation, Imunify360 security and a server firewall, and they are monitored by our team. If your site seems down, test it from mobile data first: most "outages" turn out to be a blocked IP address, a DNS or renewal problem, or an error in the site itself. If it fails for everyone, contact support by 24/7 live chat or a ticket.

1. Why we don't quote an uptime percentage

Many hosts advertise a headline uptime percentage. A figure like that tells you little on its own: it rarely says how downtime is measured, what is excluded (maintenance, attacks, problems in your own site) or what you actually receive if the target is missed. Domain India does not publish an uptime figure, an uptime guarantee or service credits for downtime.

What we can describe honestly is how the servers are set up and what happens when something goes wrong. That is what the rest of this article covers.

What 'down' really costs you

For a small business, an hour offline matters less than not knowing why. The quick checks in section 4 tell you in a few minutes whether the problem is your connection, your domain, your website or the server, and who can fix it.

2. What runs on our shared hosting servers

These are the measured settings on Domain India's cPanel and DirectAdmin shared servers (measured on our servers, 20 September 2026).

CloudLinux with CageFS
Every account runs in its own isolated environment with its own resource limits, so one busy or compromised site cannot take over the server's resources or read other customers' files.
Imunify360
A web application firewall (ModSecurity with the full Imunify360 ruleset), proactive defence against malicious PHP, and real-time malware scanning; on cPanel, infected files are cleaned automatically. It runs server-wide for every account.
Firewall
A server firewall blocks IP addresses after repeated failed logins. On cPanel, Imunify360's denial-of-service protection is also switched on.
Free SSL
cPanel issues free Let's Encrypt certificates automatically through AutoSSL, so sites open on https.

The web server on all Domain India shared hosting is Apache. On cPanel servers, nginx sits in front of Apache and serves cached copies of pages, which takes load off the server. Shared hosting also includes weekly backups.

None of this depends on the plan you choose. The security and isolation settings are the same for every account on a server; plans differ in resources such as storage, websites and email accounts.

3. Monitoring

Our servers and services are monitored, and the team investigates when a service stops responding. Monitoring the servers is not the same as monitoring your website, though. A server can be healthy while one site is broken by a plugin update, an expired domain or a full disk quota. Keep an eye on your own site too (section 6).

4. Is it the server, or something else?

When a website "won't open", the server is often not the cause. Work through this table before you assume an outage.

What you seeMost likely causeWhat to do
Site works on mobile data but times out on your office Wi-FiYour IP address was blocked after failed loginsSend your public IP address to support
"This site can't be reached" or "server not found" for everyoneThe domain expired, or its nameservers or DNS records changedCheck the domain's expiry and nameservers in the client area
An error page such as 500 or 503A problem in the website's code, a plugin, or a resource limitCheck the site's error log, or ask support
"Resource Limit Is Reached" or a 508 errorThe account reached its resource limitsCheck your resource usage, or upgrade
Website works but email doesn't, or the reverseThe problem is in that one service, not the whole serverCheck the service's settings, then contact support
Every site and service on your account fails for everyoneA server or account problemContact support with the details below

The key sign is the kind of failure. A browser that waits and then times out usually means your connection is blocked or the server is unreachable. A proper error page means the server is answering, so the problem is inside the website or the account. These guides cover each case: have I been blocked?, 500 Internal Server Error and Resource Limit Is Reached.

5. What to do if your site is down

  1. Test from another network.
Turn off Wi-Fi on your phone and open the site on mobile data, or ask someone in another city. If it works there, your own IP is probably blocked.
  2. Check the domain.
In the client area, open Domains and confirm the domain is active, not expired, and still using the nameservers for your hosting.
  3. Check your other sites.
If other sites on the same hosting account work, the problem is in the one site that fails, such as a recent plugin, theme or code change.
  4. Note the error.
Write down the exact message or error code, the address you opened and when it started. A screenshot helps.
  5. Contact support.
Use 24/7 live chat or open a ticket (or the public ticket form if you can't log in). Include the domain, what you see and what you have already tried.

Tickets get a first response within 15 minutes; resolution can take longer depending on the issue. Domain India does not offer phone support. You can follow a ticket at Track ticket.

Never paste passwords into a chat or ticket

Support needs your domain, the error and your public IP address if you might be blocked. It does not need your control panel or mailbox password.

6. Protect your site from downtime you control

Much downtime comes from inside the website rather than the server. These habits prevent most of it.

  • Keep software updated. Update WordPress, plugins and themes, and remove the ones you don't use. Outdated plugins are the most common way sites get hacked.
  • Test big changes first. Take a backup before a major update, and check the site straight afterwards.
  • Keep your own backups. Weekly backups are included, but download a copy of your site before big changes and keep it off the server. See How can I download a backup of my site.
  • Watch your resource usage. A site that keeps hitting its limits slows down and then shows errors. Check your hosting resource usage and upgrade before it becomes a problem.
  • Renew on time. An expired domain or hosting plan takes the site offline for everyone. Renewal invoices are emailed up to 30 days before the due date, and nothing is charged to a saved card automatically.
  • Use an external uptime monitor. A free or paid monitoring service outside our network can check your site every few minutes and email you when it stops responding.

7. When you need more than shared hosting

Shared hosting suits most business and WordPress sites. If your site needs dedicated resources of its own, or you want to run your own software and monitoring, a VPS gives you dedicated CPU, RAM and NVMe storage with full root access. A Domain India VPS is self-managed by default: you are responsible for the operating system, its updates and its firewall.

cPanel Growth

Frequently asked questions

What is Domain India's uptime guarantee?

Domain India does not publish an uptime percentage and does not offer an uptime guarantee or service credits for downtime. The shared servers run CloudLinux isolation, Imunify360 security and a server firewall, and they are monitored by our team.

How do I know if my website is down or only blocked for me?

Open the site on mobile data or ask someone elsewhere to try. If it works for them but times out on your own connection, your IP address has probably been blocked after failed logins. Send your public IP address to support to have it removed.

What should I do if my website is down for everyone?

Check that the domain is active and uses your hosting's nameservers, note the exact error, and check whether your other sites work. Then contact Domain India support by 24/7 live chat or a ticket with the domain, the error and when it started.

Do I get compensation if my site goes down?

No. Domain India does not offer service credits or compensation for downtime. If a problem is on our server, our support team works to fix it; tickets get a first response within 15 minutes.

Is my site's security affected by which plan I buy?

No. CloudLinux isolation, Imunify360 and the server firewall are set up server-wide and apply to every account on the server, whatever the plan. Plans differ in resources such as storage, websites and email accounts.

Does Domain India back up my website?

Shared hosting includes weekly backups. Keep your own copy as well, especially before large updates, by downloading a backup from your control panel and storing it off the server.
