You order a domain name from Domain India in the client area, through Order New. You search for the name, pick how many years to register it for, choose its nameservers, check the order and pay. This guide walks through each step as it appears today, with current prices and what happens after payment.

Key takeaways

Log in and open Order New (/client/order), choose Get a Domain, search for your name and select the extensions you want. Choose the registration period (1 to 10 years), keep Use our nameservers unless you host elsewhere, check the registration contact and total on the Review step, then click Proceed to Payment. A .in costs ₹575 to register and ₹625 a year to renew; a .com costs ₹1,150 a year.

1. Before you order

  • Have an account. The order runs inside the client area, so log in or create an account first. Use an email address you check often: renewal invoices and domain notices go there.
  • Decide on the name. Short, easy to say and easy to spell works best. For help choosing, see how to choose the right domain name for your business or try the free AI Domain Advisor.
  • Know whether you need hosting. You can order a domain on its own, or a hosting plan with a new domain in the same order (section 5).

2. Domain prices

These are Domain India list prices on 19 September 2026, for one year, excluding 18% GST. GST is added at checkout.

ExtensionRegister (first year)Renew (per year)Good for
.in₹575₹625Any business or person serving India
.co.in, .net.in, .org.in₹475₹525Indian companies, networks and organisations
.com₹1,150₹1,150Global reach, or where the .in is taken
.org₹1,108₹1,108Non-profits and associations
.net₹1,438₹1,769Technology and network services
.app₹1,850₹2,028Mobile and web apps
.io₹5,651₹6,005Tech startups and developer tools

Check the renewal price, not only the first-year price: on some extensions it is higher. The order page shows the price of every extension it finds, and marks extensions on sale.

3. How to order a domain on its own

  1. Open Order New.
Log in and go to /client/order. Choose Get a Domain ("Register or transfer domains without hosting").
  2. Search.
On the Domain step, keep Register new selected, type the name you want and click Search. You can also pick a popular extension to search, and use Also check to try more extensions.
  3. Select the domains you want.
Each result shows Available with its price, or Not available. If your first choice is taken, the page suggests alternatives. Select one or more available names.
  4. Choose the registration period.
When you continue, a Choose registration period window opens. Set the years for each domain, or use Quick Apply for 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 years on all of them.
  5. Choose nameservers.
Use our nameservers is recommended for most customers. Choose Use my own nameservers only if your website or DNS is with another provider, and enter at least two.
  6. Review.
Check the domain, the period, the Domain registration contact (used as the WHOIS registrant for your domain), the subtotal, GST and total.
  7. Pay.
Click Proceed to Payment and choose a payment method on the payment page.
Check the spelling before you pay

A domain is registered exactly as you type it, and once it is registered at the registry it cannot be cancelled or refunded. If you spot a mistake after paying, open a ticket at once. See I want to cancel my domain name order.

4. The registration contact

The contact you choose on the Review step becomes the registrant: the person or organisation the domain is registered to. It must be accurate. Wrong details can cause problems with verification, renewals and proving ownership later.

To register a domain to a different person or company than your account, add a new contact from the New contact link next to the contact list before you pay. To change details after registration, see how to change your domain's WHOIS information.

For .in and its second-level extensions (.co.in, .net.in, .org.in and others), personal registrant details are not shown in public WHOIS. This is free and automatic; there is nothing to switch on. On .com and most other extensions, WHOIS privacy is an optional add-on you can switch on later from the domain's page. See how to enable or disable privacy protection.

5. Ordering a domain together with hosting

If you want a website on Domain India hosting, order both at once: in Order New, choose the hosting service instead of Get a Domain. The steps are Service → Domain → Plan → Nameservers → Review, and then Proceed to Payment. At the Domain step choose Register new and search as above; the domain and the hosting are added to the same order.

If you already own the domain, choose Use existing at the Domain step instead. See ordering hosting without a new domain.

6. .in domains: identity verification

The Review step shows a NIXI compliance notice when your order includes a .in domain: the .IN registry may require the registrant's identity to be verified (eKYC) after checkout. You do this once for your account in the client area under Account › Identity verification (/client/kyc), using DigiLocker. See complete eKYC verification for the steps.

If a .in domain stays on hold after you have verified, open a ticket. Never send copies of your Aadhaar by ticket or email; verification happens only on the Identity verification page.

7. After payment

  • Find your domain under Domains in the client area (/client/domains). Its page shows the status, expiry date, nameservers and security settings.
  • Keep the transfer lock on. The Transfer tab shows the lock, which stops the domain being moved to another registrar without you. See understanding domain lock.
  • Point it at your website. With Domain India hosting, use the nameservers shown on your hosting service's page. See how do I change my nameservers.
  • Plan the renewal. We email a renewal invoice before the expiry date and never charge a saved card automatically; the domain renews when you pay that invoice. See how auto-renewal works.

If the domain still shows as pending well after your payment went through, open a ticket with the domain name and invoice number.

8. Troubleshooting

  • The search shows no results. Reload the page, check your connection, or try another browser. The search needs JavaScript enabled.
  • The name I want is not available. Try another extension such as .in, .co.in or .com, a shorter variation, or ask the AI Domain Advisor for ideas.
  • The domain is registered but my website doesn't load. A domain needs hosting or a website builder, and nameservers or DNS records that point to it. Nameserver changes can take up to 24–48 hours to reach every network.
  • I want to move an existing domain here. Choose Transfer at the Domain step instead of Register new. See transferring a domain to Domain India.
