How to Cancel a Service

You can stop a Domain India hosting plan or domain without talking to anyone: switch its renewal off in the client area, and it simply ends on the date it is paid up to. If you need a service stopped today, want a refund, or are cancelling something the client area cannot switch off, you open a support ticket instead. This guide shows each route, what the refund policy covers, and what to save before a service goes.

Key takeaways

To stop a hosting plan or domain, open Renewals in the client area and choose Don't renew. It keeps working until its paid-up date, and no renewal invoice is left open. An order you have not paid can be cancelled from Orders. For an immediate cancellation, a refund, or any other service, open a ticket. Only new shared and reseller hosting purchases are refundable, in full, within 30 days.

1. Choose the right route

We never charge a saved card: a service renews only when you pay its renewal invoice. So "cancelling" usually means making sure that invoice is never needed.

If you only want a smaller or cheaper plan, you don't need to cancel. See how to downgrade your hosting plan or upgrading your hosting package.

2. Stop a hosting plan or domain from renewing

The Renewals page lists every hosting plan and domain on your account with its expiry date. This is the self-service way to end one.

  1. Open Renewals.
Sign in and go to Renewals.
  2. Choose Don't renew.
Find the service and click Don't renew next to it. The button appears while the service is still before its expiry date.
  3. Read the summary.
The screen shows the date the service stops working and what happens after that date, including when a hosting account and its data are deleted. It also names any pending renewal invoice that will be cancelled.
  4. Confirm.
Tick the box to confirm you understand, type the domain name exactly as shown, and click Don't renew.

The service is now marked Off — you declined. It keeps working normally until its paid-up date, because switching renewal off does not move that date.

A few things the screen may tell you:

  • An invoice also covers another service. It stays open, because cancelling it would affect the other service. Ask support to adjust it.
  • An invoice already has a payment in progress. You can't switch renewal off here. Open a ticket instead, so the payment and the cancellation are handled together.

For a domain only, you can also use the Domain renewal switch on the domain's own page in Domains. Turned off, no renewal invoice is sent; turned back on, one is. The effect is the same: the domain runs to its expiry date and then stops.

3. Cancel an order you have not paid

If you placed an order and have not paid, nothing has been set up yet. Open Orders, choose the pending order, cancel it, and confirm that you have made no payment. Its invoice is voided and nothing is registered or created. You can also just leave the invoice unpaid.

Paid by bank transfer or UPI? Don't cancel the order

If you have already sent money and the order still shows unpaid, cancelling it voids the invoice your payment belongs to. Open a ticket with your payment reference instead.

For domain orders at every stage, see how to cancel a domain name order.

4. Cancel now, or ask for a refund: open a ticket

The client area has no button that ends a hosting account immediately. If you need a service stopped before its paid-up date, want a refund, or want to close your account, open a ticket from the client area or the public ticket form, and choose the Billing department if it is offered.

Include:

  • the service: the domain name the hosting is for, or the domain itself;
  • whether you want it stopped now or at the end of the term;
  • whether you are asking for a refund, with the invoice number;
  • confirmation that you have saved your data (section 6).

Every ticket gets a first response within 15 minutes, and it keeps a written record of your request.

5. What the refund policy covers

Refunds follow the Domain India refund policy:

ServiceRefundable?Condition
Shared hosting, new purchaseYes, in fullWithin 30 days of purchase
Reseller hosting, new purchaseYes, in fullWithin 30 days of purchase
Hosting renewalNoRenewal payments are non-refundable
VPS and dedicated serversNoOnce provisioned
Domain registration and renewalNoOnce registered or renewed
SSL certificates and add-onsNo—
Setup feesNo—

How a refund works, per the policy:

  • You request it by support ticket, within the eligible period.
  • Refunds go to the original payment method only and are processed within 7–10 business days.
  • Partial months are not prorated, and unused account credit is not refundable.
  • Services ended for a Terms of Service or acceptable-use violation are not refunded, and a chargeback or payment dispute voids refund eligibility.

So if you ordered hosting and a domain together, the hosting can be refundable within 30 days of a new purchase, but the registered domain is not. More detail: are fees for domains refundable.

6. Save your data before a service ends

Once a hosting account is deleted, its files, databases and mailboxes are gone, and we cannot recover them afterwards.

Website files
Download them with File Manager (compress the folder first) or an FTP client.
Databases
Export each one from phpMyAdmin as a .sql file.
Email
Copy mailboxes into a mail app over IMAP, or move them to your new provider before you switch.
Backups
On cPanel and DirectAdmin, download a full backup from JetBackup in your panel.

Also write down your DNS records, and point your domain at its new home before the hosting stops. Your domain is a separate service: cancelling hosting does not cancel the domain, and the domain can keep working with another host. JetBackup steps are in backup and restore with JetBackup.

7. What happens after the paid-up date

ServiceOn the paid-up dateLater
HostingKeeps working up to that dateSuspended a few days after it: website, databases and email stop. Some days after suspension, the account and all its data are deleted
DomainWebsite and email on the domain stopRenewal at the normal price is possible for a short time. After that, recovery costs more, and finally the name is deleted and anyone can register it

The Don't renew screen shows the exact dates for your own service before you confirm. The rules for each domain extension differ; see managing renewals.

Deletion is permanent

After a hosting account is deleted, its data cannot be restored. Download everything you need before the paid-up date.

8. Changed your mind?

  • Before the paid-up date: open Renewals and click Turn renewal back on. Any renewal invoice that was cancelled when you switched it off is re-opened, and you renew by paying it. For a domain, you can also turn its Domain renewal switch back on.
  • After suspension: open a ticket straight away and ask whether the service can still be renewed.
  • After deletion: the service cannot be brought back. Order a new one and restore your own backup.

Frequently asked questions

How do I cancel my Domain India hosting?

Open Renewals in the client area and choose Don't renew for the hosting plan. It keeps working until its paid-up date and is not renewed. To stop it immediately or to request a refund, open a support ticket.

Will Domain India charge my card if I forget to cancel?

No. Domain India never charges a saved card automatically. A renewal invoice is emailed before the due date, and the service renews only if you pay it. An unpaid invoice means the service expires.

Can I get a refund when I cancel?

New shared and reseller hosting purchases get a full refund within 30 days of purchase, requested by support ticket. Renewals, domains, SSL certificates, add-ons, setup fees, and VPS and dedicated servers once provisioned are non-refundable. Refunds go to the original payment method within 7–10 business days.

Does cancelling hosting cancel my domain?

No. The domain is a separate service with its own renewal. It keeps working and can be pointed at another host. Switch off its renewal separately if you no longer want it.

Can I undo Don't renew?

Yes, any time before the paid-up date. Open Renewals and click Turn renewal back on; any renewal invoice cancelled when you declined is re-opened for payment.

What happens to my website and email after cancellation?

A hosting account is suspended a few days after its paid-up date and later deleted with all its files, databases and mailboxes. The Don't renew screen shows the exact dates. Download a backup first; deleted data cannot be recovered.

Ready to stop a service? Open Renewals to switch off renewal, check the refund policy, or open a ticket if you need it cancelled today or want a refund.

Need a service cancelled now?
