You can move a domain you already own from another registrar to Domain India and keep the same name, website and email. You need a domain that is at least 60 days old, unlocked at your current registrar, and its auth (EPP) code. Then you start the transfer on our Domain Transfer page and pay; one year is added to the domain's existing expiry date.
Unlock the domain at your current registrar and get its auth (EPP) code. Go to Domain Transfer, enter the domain and the code, check the price and pay. The transfer starts after payment, and one year is added to your existing expiry date. .in domains transfer the same way; a .uk domain has no auth code, so start a .uk transfer with a support ticket.
The complete steps, .in and .uk rules and prices are in How to transfer your domain to us. What happens after you pay, and how to keep your website and email running during the move, are in Can I transfer an existing domain to Domain India.
1. Before you start
- At least 60 days since the domain was registered or last transferred.
- Transfer lock off at your current registrar.
- Auth (EPP) code from your current registrar.
- Domain active, not expired. Renew or restore an expired domain at the current registrar first.
- Registrant email working, because confirmation messages often go there.
You don't need to switch off privacy for a .in domain: personal registrant details of .in domains are hidden in public WHOIS automatically, and this does not block a transfer. See check if your domain name can be transferred.
2. Transfer steps
- Prepare at your current registrar.Turn off the transfer lock and get the auth code; see how to get your auth code.
- Open the transfer page.Go to Domain Transfer and enter your domain name.
- Enter the auth code.Paste it rather than typing it. The form needs at least 6 characters.
- Check eligibility and price. The page shows whether the domain can be transferred and the price, which includes a one-year extension.
- Check out and pay.Sign in or create an account and pay the invoice. The transfer starts after payment.
- Watch the registrant email.Your current registrar may ask you to confirm or approve the move.
Anyone with the auth code of an unlocked domain can try to move it. Paste it only into the Domain India transfer form, never into a chat, forum or screenshot.
Most transfers of .com and other generic domains finish within about 5 to 7 days. This is typical, not guaranteed. Follow progress under Domains in your client area.
3. .in and .uk domains
.in domains, including .co.in, .net.in and .org.in, transfer the same way. Domain India is a NIXI-accredited .IN registrar. A .in domain may need identity verification (eKYC), which is done only in the client area through DigiLocker; see complete eKYC verification. If the domain stays on hold afterwards, open a ticket.
.uk domains have no auth code. They move when the current registrar changes the registrar tag, so open a ticket first and support will confirm the tag and steps.
4. Price
| Extension | Transfer (includes 1 year) | Renew (per year) |
|---|---|---|
| .in | ₹625 | ₹625 |
| .co.in | ₹525 | ₹525 |
| .com | ₹1,150 | ₹1,150 |
Domain India list prices on 19 September 2026, excluding 18% GST. Other extensions are on the domain pricing page.
5. After the transfer
Turn the transfer lock back on from the domain's Transfer tab, check the Contacts and Nameservers tabs, and make sure the nameservers point where your website and email are hosted. Domain India never charges a saved card automatically: a renewal invoice is emailed up to 30 days before the due date, and the domain renews when you pay it.
