When a domain expires, it stops working that same day: your website goes offline and email to the domain stops arriving. For a limited time afterwards you can still renew it at the normal price; after that, the only way back is a restore, which costs much more. This page gives the short answer for the grace period at Domain India and what to do today.

An expired domain stops resolving on its expiry date, not at the end of the grace period. At Domain India a .in domain can be renewed at the normal price up to day 36 after expiry; from day 37 it can only be restored, for ₹4,000, which includes the renewal. A .com restored after its grace period costs ₹8,000, including one year. For other extensions the windows and fees vary, so ask support for your domain's exact dates.
1. What the grace period is, and what it is not
The grace period is the time after expiry during which you can still renew a domain at its normal renewal price. It is not extra time for the domain to keep working. From the expiry date:
- your website and any subdomains stop loading;
- email sent to addresses at the domain stops arriving;
- anything that sends login codes to an address at that domain stops reaching you.
Renewing during the grace period brings the domain back without a restoration fee.
2. How long you have, and what it costs

The grace period for .com and other generic extensions is not the same everywhere, so ask support for your own domain's exact dates rather than relying on a general figure. If nobody restores a domain in time, the registry deletes it, and after that anyone can register it.
3. Renew an expired domain
- Open the domain.Sign in and open your domains, then click the domain.
- Renew or pay the invoice.Click Renew, or pay the waiting renewal invoice in your invoices.
- Wait for DNS to refresh.Once the payment is recorded the domain resolves again; cached DNS answers can take a few hours to update.
- No renew option?The domain may already be past the normal renewal window. Open a ticket straight away with the domain name, and support will confirm whether it can be restored and what it costs.
A domain is renewed only after its invoice is paid. Domain India never charges a saved card automatically and does not renew ahead of payment, so an unpaid invoice means the domain stays expired. Pay on the day you notice: once a .in domain passes day 36, getting it back costs ₹4,000.
4. Stop it happening again
"Auto-renewal" at Domain India means a renewal invoice, not an automatic charge. The invoice is emailed up to 30 days before the expiry date, and the domain renews only when you pay it. To stay safe:
- keep the email address on your account current, and check spam for renewal invoices;
- leave the renewal switch on the domain's page on, so the invoice is sent;
- renew important domains for several years at once.
