How to Transfer Your Domain to Domain India

Transferring your domain to Domain India gives you centralized management of your domain and hosting in one place. The transfer process typically takes 5-7 days.

Before You Start

Ensure the following:

  1. Domain is at least 60 days old — ICANN policy prevents transfers within 60 days of registration or previous transfer
  2. Domain is unlocked — Disable the transfer lock at your current registrar
  3. You have the Auth/EPP Code — Obtain this from your current registrar
  4. Admin email is accessible — Transfer approval emails are sent to the WHOIS admin contact
  5. Domain is not expired — Renew at your current registrar if it is about to expire

Transfer Steps

Step 1: Prepare at Your Current Registrar

  1. Log in to your current registrar
  2. Unlock the domain (disable transfer lock)
  3. Get the Auth/EPP Code
  4. Ensure WHOIS privacy is disabled (some registrars hide the admin email)

Step 2: Initiate Transfer at Domain India

  1. Go to https://domainindia.com/support
  2. Search for your domain name
  3. Select Transfer (not Register)
  4. Enter the Auth/EPP Code
  5. Select the transfer period (transfers include 1 year extension)
  6. Complete checkout and payment

Step 3: Approve the Transfer

  1. You will receive an approval email at the WHOIS admin email address
  2. Click the approval link in the email
  3. Confirm the transfer

Tip: Check your spam/junk folder for the approval email. It is sent by the registry, not by Domain India.

Step 4: Wait for Completion

  • The transfer typically completes within 5-7 days
  • Some transfers complete within 24 hours if approved promptly
  • You can check the transfer status in your client portal

Step 5: Verify and Configure

Once the transfer completes:

  1. Log in to the Domain India Client Portal
  2. Go to Domains — your domain will be listed
  3. Update nameservers if needed
  4. Configure DNS records
  5. Enable domain lock for security

What Transfers Include

  • 1 year extension — Your domain expiry date is extended by 1 year
  • Full DNS management — Manage all records from your dashboard
  • Domain lock — Enabled by default after transfer
  • Auto-renewal — Available for future renewals

Transfer Pricing

Domain transfers are priced at the standard annual renewal rate for each TLD. The transfer fee includes 1 year of registration.

Troubleshooting

Transfer Rejected

  • Verify the Auth Code is correct (case-sensitive)
  • Ensure the domain is unlocked
  • Check the domain is not within the 60-day lock period
  • Ensure the domain is not expired

Approval Email Not Received

  • Check spam/junk folders
  • Verify the WHOIS admin email is correct
  • Disable WHOIS privacy at the current registrar
  • Contact support if needed

Transfer Taking Too Long

  • If not approved within 5 days, the transfer auto-completes (for most TLDs)
  • Check with your current registrar if they are blocking the transfer
