An email mailing list lets you reach a group through one address: write to [email protected] and everyone on the list gets a copy. On Domain India hosting there are two ways to do this, a simple forwarder for a few people and a full mailing list for a larger group. For newsletters to customers, neither is the right tool. This guide explains which to choose, what each panel offers, and the sending limits that apply.
It covers cPanel, DirectAdmin, Webuzo and Windows (Plesk) hosting. It does not apply to Domain India Business Email, which runs on a separate platform with its own webmail at mail.yourdomain.com:8443. Not sure which you have? See Business Email vs the email included with your hosting.
For a handful of colleagues, use a forwarder: one address copied to several people. For a team, committee or club that needs members, moderation or archives, use Mailing Lists in cPanel (GNU Mailman) or the mailing list feature in DirectAdmin. Outgoing mail on shared hosting is limited to 200 messages per hour per account on cPanel and 1,000 per day on DirectAdmin, so send newsletters and marketing through a dedicated newsletter service. A mailing list is a group tool, not a marketing tool. If the people on your list signed up on your website, go straight to section 6.
2. What each hosting panel offers
We checked our servers on 23 September 2026:
- cPanel: the Mailing Lists tool, which runs GNU Mailman, is installed and switched on for our cPanel plans.
- DirectAdmin: a mailing list feature is available under E-mail Manager › Mailing Lists.
- Webuzo: Webuzo has a Mailing List page under Email; ask support before you rely on it for a large list.
- Windows (Plesk): we have not confirmed a mailing list tool. Use forwarders, or ask support before planning around a list.
cPanel, DirectAdmin and Plesk all have forwarders. On Webuzo, they are under Email › Email Forwarders.
3. A small group: use a forwarder
A forwarder copies every message sent to one address on to other addresses. In cPanel:
- Open Email › Forwardersin cPanel.
- Click Add Forwarderand enter the group address, such as
team, with your domain. - Enter the first person's addressunder Forward to Email Address and click Add Forwarder.
- Repeat for each personwho should receive a copy.

4. A larger group: create a mailing list in cPanel
- Log in to cPanel.Use the login button on your hosting service in the client area, or see how to log in to cPanel.
- Open Email › Mailing Lists.
- Enter a list name and choose the domain.The list's address becomes that name at your domain, such as
[email protected]. It must not clash with an existing mailbox or forwarder. - Set a strong administrator passwordthat you use nowhere else.
- Choose Private or Public.Private keeps the member list and archives out of public view and suits most business lists.
- Click Add,then click Manage next to the list to add members and choose who may post.

5. Sending limits apply
Every message to a group goes out as one copy per recipient through the same shared mail server as your mailboxes. We measured the outgoing limits on our servers in September 2026:

An earlier version of this guide said the limit was usually 500 per hour. That is not what our cPanel accounts run at: the figure is 200 per hour per account. Plan as if every copy to every member counts, and keep hosting lists to the size of a team, a committee or a small club.
On cPanel, a small amount of mail over the limit is held and retried, but beyond that further messages are refused with a bounce, so a large send does not simply wait for the next hour. The details are in do you limit the amount of mail I can send per hour.
Spam complaints about one account damage the reputation of the server that every customer on it relies on. Newsletters and marketing campaigns to large lists should never be sent from a hosting account.
6. Newsletters and marketing: use a newsletter service
To email customers, subscribers or leads, use a dedicated newsletter or email marketing service. Well-known options include Brevo, Mailchimp, MailerLite and Zoho Campaigns; developers often use Amazon SES. Free tiers and prices change often, so compare current plans on the providers' own websites.

7. Good practice and troubleshooting
- Get permission first. India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 requires consent to process personal data, and other countries have similar rules.
- Make leaving easy. Tell members in every message how to unsubscribe.
- Remove addresses that bounce. Repeated bounces make receiving servers treat your mail as spam.

- Bounces about the hourly limit? You are sending more than the account allows. Split the send, shrink the list, or move it to a newsletter service.

Does Domain India hosting include mailing lists?
Yes on cPanel hosting, where the Mailing Lists tool (GNU Mailman) is switched on. DirectAdmin hosting also has a mailing list feature. Webuzo has a Mailing List page under Email; ask support before you rely on it for a large list. For Windows hosting, use forwarders or ask support.
What is the difference between a forwarder and a mailing list?
A forwarder copies mail sent to one address on to other addresses, with nothing to manage. A mailing list has its own members who can join and leave, plus moderation, archives and an administrator password.
How many emails can a mailing list send per hour?
Mail from a hosting account is limited to 200 messages per hour per account on cPanel and 1,000 per day on DirectAdmin. Each copy to each member is a separate message, so keep lists small and plan as if every copy counts.
Is the limit 500 emails per hour?
No. An older version of this article said 500 per hour. Domain India cPanel accounts run at 200 messages per hour per account, and DirectAdmin accounts at 1,000 per day.
Can I send a newsletter to my customers from a hosting mailing list?
It is not a good idea. Shared hosting limits outgoing mail and bulk mail from a shared server risks blocks and spam complaints. Use a dedicated newsletter service for customers and subscribers.
