To transfer a domain to Domain India, unlock it at your current registrar, get its auth (EPP) code, and enter both on the Domain Transfer page. You pay one transfer fee, which includes a year added to your existing expiry date. You keep the same name, website and email.

Key takeaways

Most domains can be transferred once they are at least 60 days old. Unlock the domain at your current registrar, get its auth (EPP) code, then enter the domain and the code on the Domain Transfer page and pay the transfer fee. The fee includes one year, added to your existing expiry date. Most .com-type transfers finish within about 5 to 7 days.

Eligibility details, .in and other extensions, and keeping DNS online are in Can I transfer an existing domain to Domain India. This page follows it exactly.

1. Before you start

ConditionWhat to do
At least 60 days since registration or the last transferWait until 60 days have passed
Transfer lock is offUnlock it at your current registrar
You have the auth (EPP) codeAsk your current registrar for it
Domain is active, not expired or pending deletionRenew or restore it at the current registrar first
Registrant email is currentUpdate it first; approval emails and the auth code often go there

Start at least two weeks before the domain's expiry date. If the domain expires in the middle of a transfer, the move can stall and you may have to renew it at the old registrar first. For less common cases, read Check if your domain name can be transferred.

2. Transfer steps

  1. Unlock the domain
at your current registrar. The setting may be called Registrar Lock, Domain Lock, Transfer Lock or Theft Protection.
  2. Get the auth (EPP) code.
Look for Get Auth Code, EPP Code or Transfer Out on the domain's page. Some registrars email it to the registrant. See What is a domain auth (EPP) code.
  3. and enter the domain name and the code. Paste the code rather than typing it.
  4. Check eligibility.
Domain India shows whether the domain can be transferred, with the transfer price.
  5. Check out and pay.
You can move just the domain or add a hosting plan in the same order. The transfer starts after payment.
  6. Watch the registrant email.
Your current registrar may ask you to confirm the move; approving it early can speed things up.

For .com, .net, .org and most other generic domains, the registry normally completes the transfer automatically after five days if the current registrar neither approves nor rejects it. Most finish within about 5 to 7 days; some registrars take longer, so treat this as a typical time, not a guarantee.

3. Keep your website and email working

A transfer doesn't change your nameservers, so if your DNS is hosted by your web host or a DNS service such as Cloudflare, nothing goes offline. The exception is DNS hosted free at your current registrar: it may stop when the domain leaves. Copy every record (A, CNAME, MX, TXT, including SPF and DKIM) before you start, then set up DNS again once the domain arrives. See How do I change my nameservers.

4. What it costs

ExtensionTransfer (includes 1 year)Renew (per year)
.in₹625₹625
.co.in₹525₹525
.com₹1,150₹1,150
.net₹1,438₹1,769
.org₹1,150₹1,108
.info₹2,453₹2,701

Domain India list prices on 19 September 2026, excluding 18% GST. Other extensions are on the domain pricing page. The year is added to your current expiry date, so you don't lose time already paid for.

After the transfer, turn the transfer lock back on, check the contact details, and send a test email. Domain India never charges a saved card automatically: a renewal invoice is emailed up to 30 days before the due date, and the domain renews when you pay it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I transfer my domain to Domain India?

Unlock the domain at your current registrar and get its auth (EPP) code. Then enter the domain and the code on the Domain India Domain Transfer page, check eligibility and pay the transfer fee. The transfer starts after payment.

How long does a domain transfer take?

Most transfers of .com and other generic domains finish within about 5 to 7 days. Some registrars take longer, so this is a typical time, not a guarantee.

Can I transfer a domain that expires soon?

Yes, if it is still active. Start at least two weeks before the expiry date, because a domain that expires mid-transfer can stall and may need renewing at the old registrar first.

Does a transfer add a year to my domain?

Yes. The transfer fee includes one year, which is added to the domain's existing expiry date.

Will my website or email stop during the transfer?

Not if your DNS is hosted by your web host or a DNS service, because a transfer keeps your nameservers. If your old registrar hosts your DNS for free, copy all your records before the transfer.
