An online store for laptops, phones, networking gear and accessories has different needs from most shops. Buyers compare specifications line by line, orders are high in value, and every sale carries a warranty and often a serial number. WordPress with the free WooCommerce plugin handles all of this well. This guide walks you through building a tech store on Domain India cPanel hosting, focusing on the parts that are specific to selling electronics.
Install WordPress and WooCommerce from cPanel, then create global attributes such as Brand, Processor, RAM and Storage so buyers can compare and filter. Add models with several configurations as variable products, fill in weight, dimensions and identifiers such as GTIN, and state the warranty on every product. Use an Indian payment gateway, limit cash on delivery on high-value orders, issue GST invoices with a plugin, and place real test orders before launch.
1. Plan the store before you build it
Decide these before you add a single product:
- Catalogue. Top-level categories such as Laptops, Smartphones, Networking and Accessories, with sub-categories by type or brand.
- New, refurbished or both. Refurbished stock needs a condition grade and its own warranty terms on every listing.
- Warranty. Say who honours it, the manufacturer or you, for how long, and how a customer claims it.
- Policies. Returns, replacements for items dead on arrival, shipping times and cancellation. India's consumer protection rules for e-commerce expect sellers to show clear seller details, return, refund and warranty terms and a grievance contact; check the current requirements with your advisor. 2. Install WordPress and WooCommerce
On Domain India cPanel hosting you install WordPress in a few clicks with Softaculous or WP Toolkit. Point your domain at your hosting first and wait for the free SSL certificate, because a store must run on https://.
- Install WordPress.Follow how to install WordPress. Leave the directory field empty so the store opens at
yourdomain.com, notyourdomain.com/wp. - Add WooCommerce.In WordPress, go to Plugins › Add New, install WooCommerce by Automattic and activate it.
- Run the setup.Enter your store address in India, choose electronics as your industry and set the currency to Indian rupee (₹).
- Pick a theme.A WooCommerce-ready theme such as Astra, Kadence or the free Storefront theme works well. Install it under Appearance › Themes › Add New, then set your logo, colours and menus in the theme's settings.

3. Build a specification system buyers can filter
Tech buyers shop by specification. Create each specification once as a global attribute under Products › Attributes, so every product reuses the same values and buyers can filter by them.

Keep values consistent: always "16 GB", never a mix of "16GB" and "16 GB RAM". On each product, tick Visible on the product page so the attributes appear in the Additional information tab as a specification table.
4. Add products the way tech buyers expect
- Choose the product type.One model sold in several configurations, such as 8/128 GB and 12/256 GB, is a variable product. A single accessory is a simple product.
- Write your own description.Cover what the product is for, what is in the box and the key specifications. Don't paste the manufacturer's text word for word; search engines treat copied text as duplicate content.
- Add variations.For a variable product, add the attributes with Used for variations ticked, generate the variations, and give each its own price, SKU, stock and photo.
- Fill in identifiers and shipping data.Recent WooCommerce versions have a field for GTIN, UPC, EAN or ISBN in the Inventory tab. Enter the weight and box dimensions too, so shipping is calculated correctly.
- State the warranty.Put the warranty period and who provides it near the price, not only in the description.
- Publish.Assign categories, set the main image and gallery, and publish.
Turn on stock management under WooCommerce › Settings › Products › Inventory so sold-out configurations can't be ordered.
For phones, laptops and other serialised items, record the serial number or IMEI against each order, for example in a private order note, before you ship. It settles warranty claims and protects you against a different unit being returned. Plugins can add a dedicated serial number field if you ship in volume.
5. Payments for high-value orders
Online payments. Indian gateways such as Razorpay, PayU, Cashfree and PhonePe offer WooCommerce plugins for UPI, cards and net banking, and several offer card EMI, which matters for laptops and phones. Cash on delivery. COD is built into WooCommerce under WooCommerce › Settings › Payments. On expensive items it brings a real risk of refused deliveries and return shipping costs. Many tech stores offer COD only below an order value, or ask for a part-payment online.
6. Shipping, GST and invoices
Shipping. Under WooCommerce › Settings › Shipping, create zones and rates. Because you entered weight and dimensions, weight-based rates or a courier aggregator's plugin can calculate charges and print labels. Consider insured shipping for high-value parcels, and ask couriers about open-box delivery for phones.
GST. Turn on Enable tax rates and calculations under WooCommerce › Settings › General, then add rates on the Tax tab. Rates differ between product types and change from time to time, and intra-state sales use CGST and SGST while inter-state sales use IGST. Confirm current rates and HSN codes with your accountant.
Invoices. WooCommerce does not create GST invoices on its own. Use an invoice plugin that shows your GSTIN, the buyer's details, HSN codes and the tax split, and have your accountant check a sample before launch.
7. Order emails, security and speed
Order emails. WordPress sends mail through PHP mail(). On our cPanel servers the socket functions that SMTP mail plugins need are disabled, so most "send via SMTP" plugins fail. Send from an address on your own domain, publish SPF, DKIM and DMARC, and read PHP sendmail settings before you install a mail plugin. Each cPanel account can send 200 messages per hour, which covers order emails for a small store.
Security. A store holds customer addresses and phone numbers. Use strong, unique admin passwords with two-factor login, keep WordPress, WooCommerce, the theme and every plugin updated, and delete what you don't use. Speed. Our shared hosting runs Apache, so use a cache plugin such as WP Super Cache or W3 Total Cache, not LiteSpeed Cache, and never cache the cart, checkout or my-account pages. Convert product photos to WebP and keep them around 1,500 pixels wide. More in my website is slow.
8. Test, then launch
Order with each payment method, including COD, and refund one. Check that stock goes down, that you and the customer both get the order emails, that shipping and GST are right on the invoice, and that the site works on a phone.
Also check that every product shows its warranty, that filters return the right products, that your policy pages are linked in the footer, and that the padlock shows on every page.
9. Running your tech store on Domain India

Is WooCommerce good for selling electronics?
Yes. WooCommerce is free and handles specification attributes, variable products for different configurations, stock per variation and Indian payment gateways. You pay for hosting, a domain and any premium themes or plugins you choose.
How do I show a specification table on each product?
Create the specifications as global attributes under Products › Attributes, add them to each product and tick Visible on the product page. WooCommerce shows them in the Additional information tab, and buyers can filter by them.
Should I offer cash on delivery on phones and laptops?
You can, but refused high-value COD orders cost you shipping both ways. Many tech stores allow COD only below an order value or ask for a part-payment online. COD is enabled under WooCommerce › Settings › Payments.
Does WooCommerce create GST invoices?
Not on its own. Install an invoice plugin that shows your GSTIN, HSN codes and the tax split, and have your accountant check the format and the rates before launch.
Why are my WooCommerce order emails not arriving on cPanel hosting?
Most SMTP mail plugins fail on Domain India cPanel servers because the PHP socket functions they need are disabled. Send through PHP mail() from an address on your own domain, publish SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, and stay within 200 messages per hour per cPanel account.
