WHM (Web Host Manager) is the control panel that comes with a Domain India cPanel reseller plan. It is where you create hosting packages and cPanel accounts for your own clients, manage their DNS and suspend or upgrade them. This overview shows how the WHM home page is laid out, which menus a reseller uses every day, and which server settings stay with Domain India.
Open WHM with the button on your reseller service in the client area, or at https://server-hostname:2087. The left sidebar lists every function you have, grouped into categories such as Account Information, Account Functions, Packages and DNS Functions; type in the search box at its top to jump to any of them. As a reseller you manage your own accounts and packages. Server-wide settings, installed software, backups and the firewall are managed by Domain India.
1. Reseller WHM is not root WHM
Many WHM guides are written for server owners with root access, and they describe menus you won't see. On shared reseller hosting, WHM shows only the functions your reseller privileges allow. On our cPanel servers these privileges are set per reseller account, so two resellers can see slightly different menus.
| Task | Reseller | Server owner (Domain India) |
|---|---|---|
| Create and list client accounts | Yes | Yes |
| Terminate client accounts | Usually | Yes |
| Create and edit hosting packages | Yes | Yes |
| Edit client DNS zones and MX records | Yes | Yes |
| Suspend, unsuspend, upgrade or downgrade accounts | Usually | Yes |
| Tweak Settings, Basic WebHost Manager Setup | No | Yes |
| PHP versions, Apache, mail server and firewall | No | Yes |
| Server backups and the AutoSSL provider | No | Yes |
| Reboot the server or install software | No | Yes |
If a function you need is missing from your sidebar, ask support whether your plan includes it.
2. Log in to WHM
- From the client area.Open your hosting and click the WHM button on your reseller service. WHM opens already signed in.
- Directly.Go to
https://server-hostname:2087and sign in with your reseller username and password. The hostname, server IP and username are on the service's Manage › Access tab. - Forgotten the password?Use Reset password on the same Access tab.
Use the server hostname rather than the IP address, so the browser shows a valid certificate. More detail is in logging into WHM.
3. The home page at a glance
- Search box (top of the sidebar). WHM has many functions, and typing a word such as "account", "package" or "zone" is the quickest way to find one.
- Left sidebar. Every function you have, grouped into categories. Click a category name to expand it.
- Main area. The same categories as icons, so you can browse by picture.
- Top bar. Your username, notifications and Logout.
- Server Information. Basic facts about the server, such as the cPanel version. Server load and service status are the server owner's job; not every reseller sees Service Status.
4. The menus you will use most
Account Information
- List Accounts: every client account with its domain, package, disk use and status, and a button to open each client's cPanel without their password.
- List Suspended Accounts and the account summaries: quick checks before you act.
Account Functions
- Create a New Account: domain, username, password, contact email and package. Send the client their own cPanel login, never your WHM one. See creating client accounts in WHM.
- Manage Account Suspension: suspend for non-payment or abuse, and unsuspend. Files and email are kept while suspended.
- Upgrade/Downgrade an Account: move a client to another package.
- Password Modification: reset a client's cPanel password.
- Terminate Accounts: deletes the account and its data.
Terminating an account deletes its files, databases and email. Ask the client to download what they need first, and confirm you have the right account before you click.
Packages
Add a Package, Edit a Package and Delete a Package set the limits you sell: disk, bandwidth, email accounts, databases, addon domains and subdomains. WHM prefixes each package name with your reseller username. The totals you hand out must fit inside your reseller plan. See creating hosting packages in WHM.
DNS Functions
Edit DNS Zone, Add a DNS Zone, Delete a DNS Zone and Edit MX Entry manage the zones on the server for your clients' domains. These records take effect only when the domain actually uses the server's nameservers. Branded nameservers are covered in private nameservers for resellers.
SSL/TLS
Client sites get free SSL through AutoSSL at server level, so you normally have nothing to do. The SSL/TLS menu lets you view certificates and install one a client bought elsewhere. Clients can check their own on the Status tab of SSL/TLS Certificates in cPanel; see AutoSSL in cPanel.
Development: Manage API Tokens
Create an API token here to connect billing software such as WHMCS or Blesta, which then creates and suspends accounts for you. Every cPanel reseller account we checked has this function. See setting up billing for your reseller business.
Customization
Where your WHM shows branding options, you can add your own logo and company name to the cPanel your clients see. See white-label branding for resellers.
5. Backups and email limits
You don't configure backups in reseller WHM. JetBackup 5 takes weekly backups of every account on the server, on Sundays, and keeps five copies; your clients download or restore their own data from JetBackup in their cPanel. See backup and restore with JetBackup.
Outgoing mail on our cPanel servers is limited to 200 messages per hour per account, whatever a package says.
6. Keep your reseller login safe
- Your WHM login controls every client account under it. Use a long, unique password and never share it with clients.
- Turn on two-factor authentication for your Domain India client area, which opens WHM with one click.
- Revoke API tokens you no longer use, and create a separate token for each tool.
7. Where Domain India fits
Domain India's cPanel reseller plans give you WHM with white-label branding, free AutoSSL certificates and weekly JetBackup backups for every client account. Plans and current prices are on the reseller hosting page. Support is the same for resellers as for every customer: 24/7 live chat, and tickets get a first response within 15 minutes, with no phone line. New reseller hosting purchases can be refunded in full within 30 days under our refund policy.
Frequently asked questions
How do I open WHM on a Domain India reseller plan?
Click the WHM button on your reseller service under your hosting in the client area, or go to https://server-hostname:2087 and sign in with the reseller username and password shown on the service's Access tab.
Why don't I see Tweak Settings or Service Status in WHM?
Those are server-owner functions. On shared reseller hosting, WHM shows only the functions your reseller privileges allow; Domain India manages server-wide settings, software and services.
How do I find a function quickly in WHM?
Type a word such as account, package or zone into the search box at the top of the left sidebar, then click the matching result.
Can I set up backups for my clients in WHM?
You don't need to. JetBackup 5 takes weekly backups of every account on the server on Sundays and keeps five copies, and clients restore or download from JetBackup in their own cPanel.
Can I give a client SSH access from WHM?
Jailed SSH access is available on every shared hosting account but is off by default. The client, or you on their behalf, asks Domain India support to enable it for that account.
What happens when I suspend a client account?
The client's website shows a suspension page and they can't log in to cPanel, but their files, databases and email are kept. Unsuspend the account in Manage Account Suspension to restore it.
