As a cPanel reseller, every client you host gets their own cPanel account, which you create in WHM. It takes a couple of minutes once you have a hosting package ready. This guide walks through the Create a New Account form on a Domain India cPanel reseller plan, what to send your client afterwards, and how to fix the errors resellers hit most often.

Setting up your reseller account for the first time?

Logging in to WHM, building packages, SSL, backups and branding are covered in configuring and managing cPanel/WHM reseller hosting. Create your packages first with how to create hosting packages in WHM.

Key takeaways

In WHM, open Account Functions › Create a New Account, enter the client's domain, a username, a strong password and the client's email, choose one of your packages, and click Create. Send the client their own cPanel login, never your WHM login. The website, email and free SSL start working once the client's domain points to the server, through your nameservers or an A record.

1. Before you start

A package
Create at least one package under Packages › Add a Package. It sets the account's disk, bandwidth, mailbox and database limits.
Room in your plan
cPanel reseller plans include a fixed number of cPanel accounts and a disk allowance. Check how many you have used.
The client's domain
The domain can't already exist anywhere on the server. If it's hosted elsewhere, plan how it will point to us.
A secure way to send the login
Use a password manager share or another private channel, not a plain email with everything in it.

2. Open WHM

Sign in to the client area, open My Hosting and click WHM on your reseller service's row; WHM opens already signed in. You can also go to https://server-hostname:2087 with the reseller username and password shown on the service's Manage › Access tab. See logging in to WHM.

3. Create the account

  1. Open Create a New Account.
In WHM, go to Account Functions › Create a New Account, or type "create" in WHM's search box.
  2. Enter the domain.
Type the client's main domain without www, for example clientbusiness.in.
  3. Check the username.
WHM suggests one from the domain. Keep it short, lowercase letters and numbers, starting with a letter. The client uses it to log in to cPanel and FTP, and it prefixes their database names.
  4. Set a strong password.
Use WHM's password generator. The client can change it later in cPanel.
  5. Enter the client's email.
cPanel sends account notices, such as quota warnings, to this address. Use an address outside the domain you are creating, so notices still arrive if the new mail isn't working yet.
  6. Choose the package.
Pick the package that matches what the client bought. You can move them to another package later.
  7. Review the settings.
Keep the default cPanel theme (Jupiter) and choose the client's language under Locale.
  8. Mail routing.
Leave it on automatic detection unless the client's email will be hosted somewhere else, such as Google Workspace; in that case choose remote.
  9. DNS settings.
Keep DKIM and SPF switched on, so the client's mail is signed and trusted. DKIM is on by default for new cPanel accounts on our servers.
  10. Click Create.
WHM shows a log of the steps and the account's details when it finishes.

4. After the account is created

Send the client their login:

  • cPanel address: https://clientbusiness.in:2083 once the domain points to the server, or https://server-hostname:2083 until then;
  • their cPanel username and password (not yours);
  • what they must change at their domain registrar (next step).

Point the domain to the server. Either set the domain's nameservers to the ones for your reseller account, or keep its current DNS and add an A record for the server IP. The steps are in how do I change my nameservers. DNS changes can take a few hours to reach everyone.

Free SSL follows automatically. AutoSSL issues a Let's Encrypt certificate at server level once the domain points to the server. Nothing needs setting up in WHM.

Check the account. Open List Accounts, find the new account, check its package and disk quota, and click the cPanel icon to open the client's cPanel and make sure it loads.

Never hand out your WHM login

Your reseller login controls every client account. Give each client only their own cPanel login, and turn on two-factor authentication for your client-area account.

5. Managing accounts afterwards

  • List Accounts: every client with domain, package, disk use and status.
  • Upgrade/Downgrade an Account: move a client to another package.
  • Password Modification: reset a client's cPanel password.
  • Manage Account Suspension: suspend and unsuspend, for example for non-payment.

Suspension and termination are covered in how to manage and suspend client accounts. Backups run for every client account automatically; see automatic backups for reseller accounts.

6. Common problems

ProblemLikely causeWhat to do
WHM says you have reached your account limitYour plan's number of cPanel accounts is used upTerminate an unused account or upgrade your reseller plan
WHM says the domain already existsThe domain, or a subdomain of it, is already on the serverCheck List Accounts; if it isn't one of yours, open a ticket
The package isn't in the listIt was created under another name, or deletedCheck Packages › Edit a Package, or create it again
Client's site shows another host's pageThe domain still points elsewhereChange nameservers or the A record, then wait for DNS
Client can't log in to cPanelWrong address, username or password, or a suspended accountUse the server hostname on port 2083, reset the password, check suspension

If a client suddenly can't reach cPanel, the website or email from one connection but can on mobile data, their IP may have been blocked after failed logins. Send support their public IP address.

7. Where Domain India fits

Domain India's cPanel reseller plans give you WHM with a fixed number of cPanel accounts per plan, plus free SSL, weekly JetBackup backups and server security for every client. If you'd rather have no account limit, DirectAdmin reseller hosting starts at ₹617 a month (Reseller Starter), excluding 18% GST, with unlimited client accounts (Domain India list price on 24 September 2026). Compare both on reseller hosting.
