Roundcube is the webmail you use with the email included in Domain India cPanel and DirectAdmin hosting. It runs in any browser and covers everything day-to-day email needs: writing and formatting messages, folders, contacts, signatures, search and, on DirectAdmin, mail filters and an out-of-office reply. This guide shows the features that are switched on for our servers and where each one lives.

Which email is this for?

This guide is for the email included with cPanel and DirectAdmin hosting. Webuzo hosting uses its own Webuzo Email webmail, Windows (Plesk) hosting uses a different webmail, and Business Email has its own webmail at https://mail.yourdomain.com:8443/. Not sure which you have? See Business Email vs the email included with your hosting.

Key takeaways

Log in at https://yourdomain.com/webmail with your full email address. Compose, folders, contacts, identities, signatures, canned responses and search work the same on both panels. Filters and an out-of-office reply are inside Roundcube under Settings › Filters and Settings › Out of Office on DirectAdmin; on cPanel they are separate tools called Email Filters and Autoresponders. cPanel's Roundcube adds a Calendar and a Junk button; DirectAdmin's adds Settings › Password and downloading messages as a ZIP file.

1. What is switched on for your server

We checked the Roundcube set-up on our shared servers on 24 September 2026. Both run Roundcube 1.6 with the Elastic theme, which works on phones and tablets as well as computers.

To log in, see how to log in to webmail. On cPanel, https://webmail.yourdomain.com and port 2096 also work; on DirectAdmin, /roundcube does too.

2. Writing and sending email

  1. Start a message.
    Click Compose.
  2. Add recipients.
Type in To; Roundcube suggests addresses from your contacts as you type. Use Cc for people who should see the message and Bcc for people whose addresses should stay hidden.
  3. Write it.
Messages start in plain text on our servers. To use bold, lists, links and colours, switch the editor to HTML with the editor-type option in the compose toolbar.
  4. Attach files.
Click Attach or drag files into the window, and wait for each upload to finish.
  5. Send.
Click Send. A copy goes to your Sent folder.

Roundcube saves drafts for you while you write (every five minutes on our cPanel server), and you can click Save at any time. Spell checking is switched off on our cPanel server; your browser's own spell check still works in the compose box.

Attachments are bigger than they look

Email encodes attachments, which makes them about a third larger in transit. The mail server accepts messages up to 50 MB on cPanel and DirectAdmin, but the receiving server may accept much less; many providers stop at about 25 MB. For large files, share a download link instead.

Canned responses. If you send the same reply often, save it under Settings › Responses and insert it from the Responses button when composing.

3. Folders, archive and junk

Your mailbox starts with Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Junk and Trash. To add your own:

  1. Go to Settings › Folders and click Create (the + button).
  2. Enter a name, choose a parent folder if you want a sub-folder, and click Save.
  3. Drag messages from the list onto a folder in the left column to move them.

The Archive button moves the selected messages to an archive folder in one click. Choose which folder that is under Settings › Preferences › Special Folders, where you can also map Drafts, Sent, Junk and Trash if they point to the wrong place.

On cPanel, the Junk button marks a message as spam and moves it to the Junk folder. Check Junk now and then for genuine mail that landed there by mistake.

4. Contacts

  • Add a contact: open Contacts, click Create, fill in the details and Save.
  • Import contacts: in Contacts, click Import and choose a vCard (.vcf) or CSV file, for example one exported from Gmail or Outlook.
  • Export contacts: select the contacts or the address book and click Export to get a vCard file you can keep as a backup.
  • Groups: create a group to write to several people at once.

On cPanel hosting, you can also sync calendars and contacts with your phone or computer: the webmail account page has a Calendars and Contacts section with the settings to use.

5. Identities and signatures

An identity is the name and address your messages come from, plus its signature.

  1. Go to Settings › Identities and click your address.
  2. Set the Display Name that recipients see, and your Organization if you want it.
  3. Add a Signature. Tick the HTML option for formatting or a logo.
  4. Click Save.

If you also receive mail at an alias on the same domain, you can add it as a second identity and pick it in the From list when composing. Only send from addresses on your own domain, or receiving servers may reject the message. For signatures in detail, see how to set up an email signature in webmail.

6. Filters and out-of-office replies

Filters act on mail as it arrives: moving messages to a folder, forwarding a copy, marking them as read or deleting them.

On DirectAdmin, filters live in Roundcube:

  1. Go to Settings › Filters and click Create.
  2. Name the filter, then set the rule, for example "From contains [email protected]".
  3. Choose the action, for example "Move message to" a folder, and click Save.

Settings › Out of Office sends an automatic reply while you are away. To block a sender for every mailbox on a domain, or to tune spam scoring, use the DirectAdmin panel instead; see managing email filters in DirectAdmin and autoresponders in DirectAdmin.

On cPanel, filters and autoresponders are cPanel tools rather than Roundcube settings. Open your webmail account page (after logging in to webmail, use the account menu to leave Roundcube) and choose Email Filters or Autoresponders. If you manage the whole hosting account, the same tools are in cPanel's Email section. See how to create an autoresponder in cPanel.

7. Search and settings worth changing

Type a word in the search box above the message list and press Enter. The search options let you choose which fields to search (Subject, From, To, the whole message) and the scope, including all folders.

Settings that make the biggest difference, all under Settings › Preferences:

  • User Interface: how often Roundcube checks for new mail.
  • Mailbox View: the layout of the message list and the reading pane.
  • Displaying Messages: remote images in HTML emails are blocked until you allow them. Leave this on; it stops senders tracking when you open their mail.
  • Composing Messages: HTML or plain text by default, and where your signature goes when replying.
  • Special Folders: which folders are used for Drafts, Sent, Junk, Trash and Archive.
