You can reset your DirectAdmin password yourself from the Domain India client area in under a minute, with no ticket and no old password. You confirm with your client-area password and choose the new DirectAdmin password. If you only need to get in, the one-click DirectAdmin button signs you in without any password.

For every login route and the full troubleshooting table, see how to log in to the DirectAdmin control panel. For lost passwords on any panel, see how to retrieve your control panel password.

Key takeaways

Sign in to the client area, open Hosting › My hosting, click Manage on your DirectAdmin account and open the Access tab. Click Reset password, enter your client-area password to confirm it is you, then choose the new DirectAdmin password. Log in at https://yourdomain.com:2222 with the username on the same card.

1. Reset the password from the Access tab

  1. Open the account.
In the client area, go to Hosting › My hosting and click Manage on the DirectAdmin account.
  2. Open the Access tab.
The Login details card shows your username, server IP and panel URL, and has a Reset password button. The same action is in the buttons at the top of the page.
  3. Confirm it is you.
Enter your current client-area password, then the new DirectAdmin password: at least 8 characters with upper and lower case letters, a number and a special character. Aim for a Strong rating on the strength meter.
  4. Log in.
Go to https://yourdomain.com:2222 and sign in with the username on the card and your new password.
Panel URL ends in :2222:2222?

On some accounts the panel URL on the Access tab has the port written twice. Remove one :2222 so the address ends in a single :2222.

2. Rules for the reset

  • Only Active accounts. If the row shows Pay now or Suspended, pay the invoice first, or open a ticket if the suspension is for another reason.
  • A limited number of attempts. You can make only a few reset attempts in an hour. If you are blocked, wait an hour and try again.
  • Two separate passwords. Your client-area password and your DirectAdmin password are separate, and changing one never changes the other.
  • An old welcome email won't help. A resent welcome email carries the password set when the account was created, not your current one.

3. Other ways in

  • No password at all: click the DirectAdmin button on your domain's row in Hosting › My hosting. It opens DirectAdmin already signed in. See logging in to DirectAdmin from the client area.
  • Already inside DirectAdmin: you can also change the password from DirectAdmin's own settings. Menu names vary by version.
  • Locked out of the client area too: reset that password first at /client/forgot. If you can no longer read the email address on your account, open a ticket from the address you want to use, with your name and domain.

4. Still refused after a reset?

If DirectAdmin still says "invalid login", check you are using the username from the Access tab, not your email address, and the new DirectAdmin password, not the client-area one.

If the login page, your website and webmail all stop loading at once, the server firewall has probably blocked your IP after failed attempts. Read have I been blocked? and send us your IP address. Support is 24/7 live chat, and tickets get a first response within 15 minutes; there is no phone support. Never send a password in a ticket: support will not ask for one.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reset my DirectAdmin password at Domain India?

In the client area open Services, My Hosting, click Manage on the DirectAdmin account and open the Access tab. Click Reset password, confirm with your client-area password and choose a new DirectAdmin password.

Do I need my old DirectAdmin password to reset it?

No. The reset from the Access tab asks only for your client-area password, then sets the new DirectAdmin password you choose.

Does changing my DirectAdmin password change my client-area password?

No. They are separate passwords, and changing one never changes the other.

Why does the Reset password button give an error?

The account may not be Active, or you may have reached the limit of reset attempts for the hour. Pay any outstanding invoice or wait an hour, then open a ticket if it still fails.

Can I get into DirectAdmin without a password?

Yes. The DirectAdmin button on your hosting row in the client area opens DirectAdmin already signed in, as long as the account is Active.

Ready to reset? Open your hosting list, click Manage, then the Access tab. For every other login question, read the full DirectAdmin login guide.
