A domain transfer moves a domain from one registrar to another. You keep the same name, and your website and email keep working as long as the nameservers stay the same. This page covers both directions, into Domain India and away from it, and sends you to the full guide for each.
To move a domain to us: unlock it at your current registrar, get the auth (EPP) code, and enter both at Domain Transfer; the fee includes one year, added to the existing expiry date. To move a domain away: open the domain in the client area, go to its Transfer tab, click Unlock domain and Get EPP code, then start the transfer at the new registrar. A domain can't move within 60 days of registration or its last transfer. .uk domains use a registrar tag instead of a code.

1. Before any transfer

Start at least two weeks before the expiry date, so the move is not squeezed against it. Treat the auth code like a password: anyone with the code of an unlocked domain can try to move it.
2. Transfer a domain to Domain India
- Prepare at your current registrar.Turn off the transfer lock and get the auth code; see what an auth (EPP) code is.
- Start the transfer.Go to Domain Transfer, enter the domain and paste the code (at least 6 characters).
- Check the price and pay.Sign in or create an account and pay the invoice. The transfer starts after payment.
- Approve if asked.Your current registrar may email the registrant to confirm the move.
- Follow progresson the domain under Domains in your client area.
Most transfers of .com and other generic domains finish within about 5 to 7 days. That is a typical time, not a guarantee; some registrars take longer.

Domain India list prices on 19 September 2026, excluding 18% GST. The year is added to the existing expiry date, so you don't lose time you have already paid for.
3. Transfer a domain away from Domain India
- Open the domain.Sign in, open your domains and click the domain.
- Open the Transfer taband read the transfer-out requirements. If a .com or similar domain has paid WHOIS privacy, open a ticket to remove it first.
- Unlock it.Click Unlock domain in the Transfer lock box.
- Get the code.Click Get EPP code, then copy it. The code is shown on the page, not emailed.
- Start at the new registrar.Enter the domain and the code there, pay their fee and approve any confirmation they send.
If the code box says Not Available, which happens with many .in domains, the domain can still be transferred: open a ticket with the domain name and the registrar you are moving to. Domain registrations are non-refundable, so there is no refund for the time left; that time moves with the domain.
4. .in and .uk domains
- .in, .co.in, .net.in, .org.in: they transfer with an auth code, like .com. Domain India is a NIXI-accredited .IN registrar. Personal registrant details of .in domains are not shown in public WHOIS; this is free and automatic, and nothing needs switching off before a transfer. A .in domain may need identity verification (eKYC), which is done only at
/client/kycthrough DigiLocker; if the domain stays on hold afterwards, open a ticket. - .uk, .co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk: there is no auth code. The domain moves when the current registrar changes its registrar tag, so open a ticket first. See transferring a .uk domain name.
5. Keep your website and email running
A transfer changes the registrar, not your nameservers or DNS records. If the domain points at hosting nameservers or at a DNS provider such as Cloudflare, your website and email keep working during and after the move. Before you start, check the domain's Nameservers tab so you know where its DNS is answered. After the transfer, turn the transfer lock back on and check the nameservers and contacts.

Do I lose the time left on my domain when I transfer it to Domain India?

How do I get the EPP code for a domain registered with Domain India?

Can I transfer a domain registered less than 60 days ago?
No. For .com and most generic extensions, a domain can't move within 60 days of its registration or its last transfer. Wait until the 60 days have passed.
