To connect a domain to your Domain India hosting, you do one of two things: point the domain's nameservers to your hosting server, or keep your current DNS and add A records for the server's IP address. The exact values for your account are shown on your hosting service's page in the client area, so you never have to copy them from an article or guess them.
Open your hosting service in the client area and find the Point a domain to this hosting card. Use Option 1 (nameservers) if your website and email will both live on this hosting; use Option 2 (two A records, for @ and www) if your email or DNS stays with another provider. Most changes work within a few hours and can take up to 24-48 hours. Then upload your website files and the free SSL certificate follows.
This page is the short version. The complete walkthrough, with the choice of method and the checks to run, is Connecting your domain to your web hosting: a step-by-step guide. For every detail of a nameserver change, read How do I change my nameservers.
1. Decide: nameservers or A records
| Your situation | Use | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Website and email will both be on your Domain India hosting | Option 1: nameservers | Your control panel manages every DNS record, including email |
| Email stays with another provider (for example Google Workspace) | Option 2: A records | Only the website moves; mail records stay where they are |
| You keep DNS at Cloudflare or another DNS service | Option 2: A records | You keep managing DNS where it is today |
Changing nameservers moves all of your DNS at once. If your email works today and the hosting server does not have the same mail records, email stops arriving. When in doubt, use Option 2.
2. Get the right values for your account
- Sign into the client area.
- Open your hosting.Go to your hosting services and select the service.
- Find the cardcalled Point a domain to this hosting. Option 1 lists the nameservers for your server; Option 2 shows the server IP address.
Nameservers differ from server to server, so use only the values shown for your own account. They are also in your hosting welcome email.
3. Option 1: change the nameservers
If the domain is registered with Domain India: in the client area open My domains, select the domain, open the Nameservers tab, click Edit, enter the nameservers from your hosting card and save. You don't need to unlock the domain first; the transfer lock does not block nameserver changes.
If the domain is registered elsewhere: sign in at that registrar, open the domain's nameserver setting, choose custom nameservers and enter the values from your hosting card. Nameservers are always changed at the registrar that holds the domain.
The domain's DNS tab may offer Activate Free DNS or Switch to Free DNS. It changes your nameservers without copying your records, so it can take your website and email offline. Use Option 1 or Option 2 instead.
4. Option 2: add A records
At the DNS provider your nameservers point to today, add or edit two records:
Type: A Host: @ Value: <server IP from your hosting card>
Type: A Host: www Value: <server IP from your hosting card>Remove older A or AAAA records for @ and www that point somewhere else. Leave your MX and TXT records alone if your email stays where it is.
5. Wait, then check
DNS answers are cached, so a change usually takes effect within a few hours and can take up to 24-48 hours. There is no guaranteed time. Check with a lookup rather than a browser, which may show an old cached copy:
dig NS yourdomain.in +short # Option 1: should list your hosting nameservers
dig A yourdomain.in +short # both options: should show the server IPOn Windows, use nslookup -type=ns yourdomain.in and nslookup yourdomain.in.
6. Upload your website and switch on HTTPS
Once the domain resolves to your hosting, upload your site with the control panel's File Manager or an FTP client. On cPanel the main domain's folder is public_html. See What settings do I need to upload my website and How do I use the File Manager.
The free SSL certificate can only be issued after the domain points at your hosting. On cPanel and DirectAdmin it is issued automatically. See Ordering an SSL certificate for each panel.
Where do I find the nameservers for my Domain India hosting?
On your hosting service's page in the client area, in the "Point a domain to this hosting" card under Option 1, and in your hosting welcome email. Different servers use different nameservers, so use only the values shown for your account.
Should I change nameservers or add A records?
Change nameservers if your website and email will both be on your Domain India hosting. Add two A records, for @ and www, pointing to the server IP if your email or DNS stays with another provider.
How long does it take for my domain to connect to my hosting?
Usually a few hours, and up to 24-48 hours on some networks, because DNS answers are cached. There is no guaranteed time.
My domain is registered with another company. Can I still use Domain India hosting?
Yes. Change the nameservers at the company where the domain is registered, or add A records at your current DNS provider, using the values from your hosting service page.
Why does my site still show "not secure" after connecting the domain?
The free SSL certificate is issued only after the domain points at your hosting. On cPanel and DirectAdmin it follows automatically once DNS has updated.
