To stop a domain from renewing at Domain India, you don't cancel a payment: you stop the renewal invoice. Choose Don't renew on the Renewals page, or switch the domain's renewal invoices off on its own page. The domain keeps working until its expiry date and then lapses.

Domain India never charges a saved card, so a domain renews only when you pay its renewal invoice. To stop that, open Renewals and choose Don't renew for the domain, or switch Domain renewal off on the domain's page. The domain works until its expiry date, and Turn renewal back on reverses your choice. Declining before you pay costs nothing; a renewal you have already paid cannot be refunded.
1. Why there is nothing to "cancel"
A renewal at Domain India is an invoice, not a card charge. We generate a renewal invoice up to 30 days before the due date and email it to you; the domain renews only when it is paid. Stopping a renewal means that invoice is never raised, is cancelled, or is left unpaid.
2. Stop the renewal from the Renewals page
- Open Renewals.Sign in to the client area and go to Billing › Renewals (/client/renewals). It lists each domain and hosting plan with its expiry date and renewal price.
- Choose Don't renewon the domain's row.
- Confirm.Tick the acknowledgement and type the domain name when asked. The domain is marked as declined ("Off — you declined") and any pending renewal invoice for it is cancelled.
You can also do it from the domain itself: open the domain under Domains and switch the Domain renewal panel off. Either way, you won't be invoiced for that domain again unless you turn renewal back on.
3. What happens next
- The domain keeps working until its expiry date. Your website and email on it are not affected before then.
- Expiry reminders may still arrive. Switching renewal off stops the bill, not the warnings.
- At expiry, the domain stops working. The website and every email address on it go offline.
- After that, recovery gets expensive. A .in can still be renewed at the normal price up to day 36 after expiry; from day 37 it can only be restored, for ₹4,000 including the renewal. A .com costs ₹8,000 to restore after its grace period, including one year. (Domain India list prices, excluding 18% GST.) If a domain is not restored in time, the registry deletes it and anyone can register it.
Once a name is released, a competitor or a squatter can register it, and every email address on it stops working for good. If you are unsure, keep the domain for one more year, or transfer it to someone who will look after it.
4. Changed your mind?
Before the expiry date, choose Turn renewal back on on the Renewals page, or switch the Domain renewal panel back on. The renewal invoice is restored at the normal price, and the domain renews once you pay it. You can also renew the domain directly from its page at any time: see how to renew your domain name.
5. Refunds and other situations
- Renewals are non-refundable. A domain renewal is paid forward to the registry, so decline before paying rather than asking for a refund afterwards.
