WHOIS privacy keeps your name, address, email and phone number out of the public record for your domain. At Domain India, how you get it depends on the extension: on .in domains it is already done for you at no cost, and on .com and most other extensions it is an optional yearly add-on.
For .in and its second-level extensions (.co.in, .net.in, .org.in and others), personal registrant details are not shown in public WHOIS. This is free and automatic; there is nothing to switch on. For .com, .net, .org and other extensions where it is supported, WHOIS privacy costs ₹300 a year per domain, excluding 18% GST, and you enable it from the Security card on the domain's page in the client area. Some extensions, such as .us, do not allow privacy at all.

1. What WHOIS privacy does
Every domain has a public WHOIS (and RDAP) record. Registrars must hold accurate contact details for the owner, and without privacy some of those details can appear in a public lookup, where they are collected for spam, sales calls and phishing. Privacy replaces your personal details in the public record with generic or proxy details.
Privacy does not hide the domain's registrar, dates, nameservers or status, and it does not let you register with false details. Registrars and registries can still disclose registrant data when the law requires it.

.in domains. The .IN registry hides personal details on every .in record, wherever the domain is registered, and this stays in place through renewals and transfers. If a .in is registered to a company or organisation, that organisation's name may still appear, along with the state and country.
.us domains. The .us registry requires the registrant to be publicly identifiable, so privacy services are not permitted. Register a .us with details you are comfortable being public, such as a business address and a business email. Other extensions have their own rules too: if you are unsure, privacy options differ by extension; ask support before you buy.
3. How to enable privacy on a .com or other extension
- Open your domain.Sign in, go to your domains and select the domain. It opens on the Overview tab.
- Find the Security card.Its WHOIS privacy row shows the current status.
- Click "Enable privacy protection".The button appears when the status is "Not enabled" and the extension supports privacy. It shows the yearly price.
- Pay the invoice.Clicking the button creates an invoice and takes you to the payment page.
- Check the status.Once the invoice is paid, the row should read "Enabled". If it still reads "Not enabled", open a ticket with the domain name and invoice number.
Privacy is bought after the domain is registered, from the domain's own page, not at checkout. There is no self-service switch to turn it off; open a ticket if you need it removed.
4. Keep the details behind the privacy accurate
