Forgotten your cPanel password? You can set a new one yourself from the Domain India client area in about a minute, without knowing the old one. All you need is your client-area password, to confirm it is you.
This page covers resetting a control panel password. For every password on your account (client area, control panel, email, FTP and database users), read How can I change my hosting account password.
Sign in to the client area, open Hosting › My hosting, click Manage on your domain, open the Access tab and click Reset password. Confirm with your client-area password, set the new one and sign in with the username shown on the same card. On Webuzo plans this reset does not work yet, so open a support ticket instead.
1. Reset your cPanel password from the Access tab
This is the quickest way, and the one we recommend. You do not need the old cPanel password.
- Open your hosting list.Sign in to the client area and choose Hosting › My hosting, or go to /client/services/hosting.
- Click Manageon the row for your domain.
- Open the Access tab.The Login details card shows your username, server IP and panel address, and has a Reset password button. The same action is also in the buttons at the top of the page.
- Confirm it is you.Enter your current client-area password, then the new control panel password twice. It needs at least 8 characters with upper and lower case letters, a number and a symbol; 12 or more is better.
- Log in with the new password,using the username on the same card.
The same Access tab works for DirectAdmin and Windows (Plesk) plans.
The Reset password button does not currently work for Webuzo accounts. If your plan uses Webuzo, open a ticket at /support/ticket from your account email and ask for a password reset. Never put a password in the ticket.
2. What a new cPanel password changes
On cPanel, the account password also opens the main FTP account and SSH password logins. Update any FTP program or SSH client that has the old password saved.
It does not change:
- your client-area password (the one you use at domainindia.com);
- any email account password;
- extra FTP accounts you created;
- database (MySQL) user passwords your website uses.
Each of those has its own password. The full password guide shows where to change each one.
3. Need to get in, not change the password?
The panel button on your domain's row in Hosting › My hosting signs you in to cPanel with one click and no panel password. On Webuzo it only opens the Webuzo login page, so you still need the password there. How to log in to cPanel covers every route in.
4. Changing it inside cPanel
You can also change the password inside cPanel: open Password & Security in the Preferences section, enter the old and new passwords and save. It takes effect straight away.
Whichever way you change it, keep the new password yourself. If you have changed your password, a resent welcome email may show the old one, so reset again instead of relying on it. More on that email: I didn't get my welcome email.
5. Locked out of the client area too?
Reset the client-area password first at /client/forgot. Enter the email address on your account and click Send Reset Link; the link expires after 1 hour. Then come back to the Access tab.
If cPanel, webmail and your website all stop loading at once but work on mobile data, the server firewall may have blocked your IP after repeated failed logins. Read have I been blocked?.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need my old cPanel password to reset it?
No. In the Domain India client area, open Services, My Hosting, click Manage on your domain, open the Access tab and click Reset password. You confirm with your client-area password, not the old cPanel password.
Does resetting my cPanel password change my email passwords?
No. Each email account has its own password. A new cPanel password does change the main FTP account and SSH password logins, because on cPanel they use the account password.
I have a Webuzo plan. How do I reset the panel password?
The client-area Reset password button does not currently work for Webuzo accounts. Open a support ticket from your account email and ask for a reset, without including any password in the ticket.
Will a resent welcome email show my new password?
Not reliably. If you have changed your password, a resent welcome email may show the old one. Reset the password again from the Access tab instead of relying on the email.
Will Domain India support ask for my cPanel password?
No. Support never needs your password. You set a new one yourself from the Access tab in the client area.
Ready to reset it? Open My Hosting, click Manage on your domain and use the Access tab. For every other password on your account, read the full password guide, or open a ticket if you are stuck.
Click Manage on your domain, open the Access tab and use Reset password. No old password needed.
