You try to sign in and get turned away, or your website, webmail and FTP suddenly stop answering. Both feel like being "banned", but at Domain India they are two different things with two different fixes: a short lock on your client area sign-in, or a firewall block of your IP address on the hosting server. This guide shows how to tell them apart and how to get back in.
If the domainindia.com sign-in page says "Account temporarily locked", too many wrong passwords or 2FA codes were entered for your email address; wait 15 minutes, then sign in with the right password. If your website, webmail, FTP or control panel times out on your connection but works on mobile data, the hosting server's firewall has blocked your IP address; fix the device with the wrong password, then send your public IP to support by live chat or ticket.
1. Which block do you have?
| What you see | Client area sign-in lock | Hosting server firewall block |
|---|---|---|
| Where it happens | The sign-in page at domainindia.com/client/login | Your website, webmail, FTP, SSH or cPanel/DirectAdmin |
| The message | "Account temporarily locked. Please try again later or contact support." or "Too many login attempts" | No message: pages spin, then time out |
| What is locked | Sign-in for one email address | Your IP address, for every service on that server |
| Works on mobile data? | No, the lock follows the email address | Yes, a different connection is not blocked |
| How it ends | By itself within 15 minutes | Support removes it, or a temporary block expires |
A quick test settles most cases: switch your phone to mobile data and try again. If the client area still says "locked", it is the sign-in lock. If the website opens on mobile data but not on your office Wi-Fi, it is a firewall block.
2. The client area sign-in lock
The client area protects your account against password guessing. When someone enters a wrong password for the same email address too many times, sign-in for that address is paused. As of September 2026 the client area:
- counts failed sign-ins per email address, and wrong two-factor codes count as failed sign-ins too;
- locks sign-in after 10 failures within 15 minutes and shows "Account temporarily locked. Please try again later or contact support.";
- lifts the lock by itself within 15 minutes of the first failed attempt;
- may also show "Too many login attempts. Please try again later." if one connection sends a burst of sign-in attempts; waiting 15 minutes clears that too.
The lock is on the sign-in for that email address, not a ban on your IP address. Your domains, hosting, websites and email keep working normally while it lasts.
You can reset your password at Forgot password while locked, and it is the right move if you are unsure of it. But the lock still runs its 15 minutes, so the new password will not let you in until the time is up. Wait, then sign in once, carefully.
3. Get back into the client area
- Stop trying.Every extra attempt during a lock is wasted. Close the tab and wait 15 minutes.
- Check the email address.Make sure you are using the email address on your Domain India account. A typo in the address fails every time.
- Reset the password if you are not sure of it.Use Forgot password and follow the link or code it sends.
- Check your authenticator app.If you use two-factor authentication, the phone's clock must be set to automatic time, and the code must be from the Domain India entry in the app.
- Sign in once. After 15 minutes, go to the sign-in page and enter the details carefully.
- Still locked after 30 minutes?Contact support by 24/7 live chat or the public ticket form, which works without signing in.
If you use two-factor authentication and have lost your phone, recovery codes cannot currently be typed at sign-in, so contact support. The full 2FA guide is How to enable two-factor authentication.
4. The hosting server firewall block
Our cPanel and DirectAdmin shared hosting servers run a firewall called CSF with a login-failure monitor. It blocks an IP address, not an account, when that address fails to log in too often to email, FTP, SSH, the control panel or a password-protected folder. These are the limits we measured on 23 September 2026:
| Failed logins to | Limit within an hour | Block on cPanel | Block on DirectAdmin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email (IMAP, POP3, SMTP sign-in) | 25 | 1 hour | 1 hour |
| Password-protected folders | 10 | 1 hour | 1 hour |
| FTP | 10 | 30 minutes | Permanent |
| Control panel login | 10 on cPanel, 15 on DirectAdmin | 30 minutes | Permanent |
| SSH | 5 | Permanent | Permanent |
If the same IP address is temporarily blocked four times within 24 hours, the block becomes permanent, and only support can remove it. The usual cause is a phone or mail app still trying an old mailbox password in the background. Because most offices share one public IP address, one device can block everyone on the same Wi-Fi.
The full explanation is in Resolving temporary IP blocks due to failed login attempts and I can't reach my server: have I been blocked?.
5. Get a firewall block removed
On cPanel, DirectAdmin and Webuzo shared hosting, the firewall is on our server and the client area has no self-service unblock button.
- Fix the cause first.Update the saved password on every phone, laptop and mail or FTP app that uses the account, or switch the device off. Otherwise the block comes straight back.
- Find your public IP address. From the blocked connection, search "what is my IP". Note both the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses if you see two. A 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x address is private and is not what the server sees.
- Contact support.Send your public IP address, your domain and the service that stopped working. Use a new support ticket, the public ticket form from mobile data, or 24/7 live chat on domainindia.com.
- Reconnect devices one at a timeafter the unblock, and check each one signs in cleanly.
Tickets get a first response within 15 minutes; removing the block can take longer, depending on the issue. There is no phone support. You can follow a ticket at Track ticket.
Support needs only your IP address, your domain and the service that failed. Never paste your client area, mailbox or control panel password into a ticket or chat.
6. Prevent both kinds of block
- Use a password manager so passwords are typed correctly the first time.
- Update saved passwords everywhere straight after a change, including phones and devices former staff returned.
- Turn on two-factor authentication for the client area. It does not stop a lock, but it stops a guessed password from being enough. Tick "Remember this device for 30 days" only on a computer nobody else uses.
- Use SSH keys. SSH on our cPanel and DirectAdmin servers accepts key login only, so a script retrying with a password just fails and adds to the count. See Enabling and accessing jailed SSH.
- Watch for phishing. Sign in only at domainindia.com, never through a link in an unexpected email.
7. If you run your own VPS
On a Domain India VPS you have root access and the firewall is the one you or your administrator installed, so you remove blocks yourself. With CSF, csf -g YOUR_IP shows why an address is blocked and csf -dr YOUR_IP removes a permanent block. Commands for Fail2ban and UFW are in I can't reach my server: have I been blocked?.
8. Where this applies at Domain India
- Client area sign-in lock: every Domain India customer account, whatever you have bought.
- Firewall block: cPanel and DirectAdmin shared hosting (the measured limits above), plus Webuzo shared hosting, where support also removes blocks.
- Your own server: a VPS is self-managed, so its firewall is yours to run.
Why does the client area say "Account temporarily locked"?
Too many wrong passwords or two-factor codes were entered for your email address. The Domain India client area locks sign-in for that address after 10 failed attempts within 15 minutes, and the lock lifts by itself within 15 minutes.
Is my IP address banned from domainindia.com?
Normally no. The client area locks sign-in for the email address, not your IP address. If websites, webmail or FTP on your hosting time out instead, that is a separate firewall block on the hosting server.
Will resetting my password unlock my account straight away?
No. You can reset the password while locked, but the lock still runs for up to 15 minutes. Wait, then sign in once with the new password.
How do I get a hosting firewall block removed?
Fix the device with the wrong password, find your public IP address by searching "what is my IP" on the blocked connection, and send it with your domain and the failed service to support by live chat or ticket.
Can I remove a firewall block myself on shared hosting?
No. On Domain India cPanel, DirectAdmin and Webuzo shared hosting the firewall runs on our server, so support removes the block. On your own VPS you manage the firewall yourself.
Why is everyone in my office blocked?
Most offices share one public IP address through their router. When the hosting server's firewall blocks that address, every computer and phone on the connection loses access at once.
Ready to get back in? For a client area lock, wait 15 minutes and sign in at the sign-in page, or reset your password at Forgot password. For a firewall block, send your public IP in a new support ticket, or use the public ticket form if you cannot sign in.
Tell us your public IP address, your domain and what stopped working, and our team will check the lock or the server firewall for you.
