To get a GST invoice from Domain India, add your GSTIN to your account before you pay, then download the tax invoice from Invoices once the payment goes through. Every paid invoice gets a GST tax invoice, whether or not you have a GSTIN; adding one puts your business details on it so you can use it in your GST records.

For the exact place to enter your GSTIN, see adding GSTIN to your account. For the rate, CGST and SGST versus IGST and input tax credit, see GST on hosting services. For the PI-, INV- and TAX- numbers, see understanding your invoice.

Key takeaways

Add your 15-character GSTIN in the GST information card on your Profile, or in billing settings, before you pay. After payment, open the invoice in Invoices: it is titled Tax Invoice with a number starting TAX-, and Download Tax Invoice saves the PDF. Give your accountant that tax invoice, not the proforma.

1. Get your GST invoice in three steps

  1. Add your GSTIN before paying.
    Open Profile, click Edit profile, enter your GSTIN in GST number (GSTIN) in the GST information card and save. The billing settings page has a GST number field that saves the same number. Check that your company name and billing state match your GST registration.
  2. Pay the invoice.
    Open it from Invoices, click Pay Now and pay by any method on the payment page.
  3. Download the tax invoice.
    Once the payment is confirmed, open the invoice again. It is now titled Tax Invoice followed by a number starting TAX-. Click Download Tax Invoice to save the PDF.

2. What the tax invoice shows

  • Domain India's GSTIN, 33AAFCD9427N1Z9;
  • your GSTIN, if it was on your account when you paid;
  • the Place of Supply, taken from your billing state;
  • SAC 998315 against each item;
  • the taxable value, the GST and the total.

Domain India charges 18% GST, and website prices exclude it. Domain India is registered in Tamil Nadu, so a Tamil Nadu billing state gives CGST 9% plus SGST 9%; any other Indian state gives IGST 18%.

The proforma is not a tax invoice

Before payment, an invoice is a Proforma Invoice (numbered PI-). It is a request for payment and cannot be used for GST. After payment the invoice also carries an INV- number, and the Tax Invoice with its TAX- number is the document for GST.

3. When the GSTIN or state is missing or wrong

The tax invoice is created with the details on your account at the moment the payment goes through. Adding your GSTIN later doesn't change an invoice already issued. If a tax invoice was issued without your GSTIN or with the wrong state, open a ticket at /client/support/new with the tax invoice number and the correct details; don't assume it can be changed.

Whether and how you claim input tax credit is a question for your CA. Support can check a specific tax invoice if your accountant finds a mismatch.
