If you resell cPanel hosting, WHM is where you look after your clients' accounts: change a package, reset a password, suspend an account for non-payment, bring it back, or delete it for good. This guide covers each of those tasks on a Domain India cPanel reseller account, what a suspension actually does, and two checks that save you from telling a client "it's fixed" when it isn't.
In WHM, go to Account Functions › Manage Account Suspension to suspend or unsuspend a client; files, databases and email are kept. Use Upgrade/Downgrade an Account to change a package and Password Modification to reset a password. Terminate an Account deletes everything permanently, so make sure the client has a backup first. After you unsuspend, open the site in a private window: if it still shows the suspension page, open a ticket.
1. Before you start: what your WHM can do
Resellers get a limited set of WHM tools, called privileges. The menus you see depend on the privileges attached to your plan, so a function described here may be missing from your WHM. If it is, ask support whether your plan includes it rather than looking for a workaround.
Open WHM from the WHM button on your reseller service in your hosting services, or at https://server-hostname:2087. The hostname and your username are on the service's Manage › Access tab. The full setup, including packages and branding, is in configuring and managing cPanel/WHM reseller hosting.
| Task | WHM page |
|---|---|
| See all your clients | Account Information › List Accounts |
| Move a client to another package | Account Functions › Upgrade/Downgrade an Account |
| Change individual limits | Account Functions › Modify an Account (only on some reseller plans) |
| Reset a client's cPanel password | Account Functions › Password Modification |
| Suspend or unsuspend | Account Functions › Manage Account Suspension |
| Delete an account | Account Functions › Terminate an Account |
The WHM search box at the top left finds any of these pages by name.
2. Find an account and check its usage
Account Information › List Accounts shows each client's domain, username, package, disk used and whether the account is suspended. Use the search box above the table to find one client quickly.
Expand a row in List Accounts for more detail. When a client regularly sits near a package limit, tell them before the site or mailboxes stop working, and offer a bigger package.
3. Change a client's package or limits
- Open Upgrade/Downgrade an Account.Choose the client's account.
- Pick the new package. The account takes on all of that package's limits: disk, bandwidth, email accounts, databases and so on.
- Confirm. The change applies straight away; the client doesn't need to log out.
Changing a package is the clean way to give more resources, because every account on a package stays consistent. Modify an Account, which sets custom limits for one account, is only available on some reseller plans. If you edit a package itself under Packages › Edit a Package, the new limits reach every account on that package. See creating hosting packages in WHM.
4. Reset a client's cPanel password
- Open Password Modificationunder Account Functions.
- Choose the account.
- Set a strong password,or use the generator, and save.
Send the new password to the client over a channel you trust, and ask them to change it after they log in. Never paste passwords into a support ticket.
5. Suspend an account
Suspension switches an account off without deleting anything. Resellers usually suspend for non-payment, for an abuse report, or at the client's request.
- Open Manage Account Suspensionunder Account Functions.
- Choose the account.
- Enter a reason. It is for your own records.
- Click Suspend.
What the client and their visitors see:
- The website shows a suspension page instead of the site.
- cPanel login is blocked for the client.
- Files, databases and mailboxes stay on the server untouched.
- Email: incoming mail for a suspended account is handled by a server-wide setting, not by you. Don't promise a client that mail sent during a suspension will be delivered later; if it matters, ask support how it is handled on your server.
If a client's account sends spam or hosts malware or phishing, suspend it first and investigate second. One compromised account can get the shared server's IP address blocklisted, which affects your other clients too. Our own server security, including Imunify360, runs server-wide whatever you do.
Brand the suspension page
The default suspension page is plain. In WHM, Web Template Editor lets you edit the suspended-account template with your own brand and a "please contact billing" message. Keep it short and avoid personal details about the client.
6. Unsuspend an account
- Open Manage Account Suspensionand choose the suspended account.
- Click Unsuspend.
- Check the website yourself.Open each of the client's domains in a private browser window, and add
?t=123to the address to skip any cached copy.
Our cPanel servers run nginx in front of Apache, and nginx can keep serving the cached suspension page after WHM says the account is active. You can't clear that cache from WHM. If a domain still shows the suspension page a few minutes after you unsuspend, open a ticket with the account's domain names and we will clear it. Don't tell your client the site is back until you have seen it load.
7. Terminate an account
Termination permanently deletes the account: website files, databases, mailboxes and DNS zone. It cannot be undone from WHM.
Before you terminate:
- Get the client's data out, if they want it. Weekly account backups by JetBackup 5 are kept on the server, and the client can download them from JetBackup in their own cPanel while the account still exists. See backup and restore with JetBackup.
- Tell the client and give them a date.
- Consider suspending instead if there is any chance they will come back or pay.
Then open Terminate an Account, choose the account, read the confirmation carefully and confirm. The terminate page may offer to keep the DNS zone; leave it unticked unless you know you need it. If your WHM has no Terminate page, your plan doesn't include that privilege, so ask support.
8. A simple process for non-payment
Most reseller disputes are about money, so decide the rules before the first late payment and write them into your terms:
- Invoice early and send a reminder a few days before the due date.
- Suspend a set number of days after the due date, and tell the client the account is suspended, not deleted.
- Unsuspend as soon as they pay, then check the site loads (section 6).
- Terminate only after a longer, clearly stated period, and only after offering them their data.
You set these periods for your own clients; Domain India doesn't set them for you. Your own reseller account follows Domain India's renewals: a renewal invoice is emailed before the due date, and the service renews only when that invoice is paid. See how auto-renewal works.
9. Where Domain India fits
Domain India cPanel reseller plans are white-label, with CloudLinux account isolation, Imunify360 security and weekly JetBackup backups running server-wide for every client account. DirectAdmin reseller plans have no limit on the number of client accounts. Compare current plans and prices on the reseller hosting page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I suspend a client account in WHM?
Open Account Functions, then Manage Account Suspension, choose the account, enter a reason for your records and click Suspend. The website shows a suspension page and the client can't log in to cPanel, but files, databases and mailboxes are kept.
Does suspending an account delete anything?
No. Suspension keeps the account's files, databases and mailboxes on the server. Only Terminate an Account deletes data, and termination cannot be undone from WHM.
I unsuspended an account but the site still shows the suspension page. Why?
Domain India's cPanel servers run nginx in front of Apache, and nginx can keep serving the cached suspension page after WHM reports success. Resellers can't clear that cache from WHM, so open a ticket with the domain names and support will clear it.
How do I give a client more disk space or email accounts?
Move them to a bigger package with Upgrade/Downgrade an Account, or edit the package itself so every account on it gets the new limits. Modify an Account, which sets custom limits for a single account, is available only on some reseller plans.
How can a client get a backup before I terminate their account?
JetBackup 5 takes weekly backups of every account on Domain India's cPanel servers. While the account still exists, the client can download a backup from JetBackup in their own cPanel. After termination, the data is gone.
Can I customise the suspension page my clients' visitors see?
Yes. In WHM, the Web Template Editor lets you edit the suspended-account page with your own branding and a contact message.
Why can't I see Terminate an Account or Modify an Account in WHM?
Your WHM menus depend on the privileges attached to your reseller plan. If a function is missing, ask Domain India support whether your plan includes it.
Ready to manage your clients? Open WHM from your hosting services, read the full cPanel/WHM reseller guide, or open a support ticket if an unsuspend doesn't take.
