A cPanel reseller account gives you WHM (Web Host Manager), where you create hosting packages and cPanel accounts for your own clients. This guide covers the first hour with a new Domain India reseller account: logging in, building packages, creating and managing client accounts, SSL, backups and branding, and what a reseller can and can't change.
Open WHM from the WHM button on your reseller service in the client area, or at https://server-hostname:2087. Create packages under Packages › Add a Package, then client accounts under Account Functions › Create a New Account. Server-wide settings such as Tweak Settings, Basic WebHost Manager Setup and the AutoSSL provider are managed by Domain India, not by resellers. Free SSL, weekly JetBackup backups and security run at server level for every client account.
1. What a reseller account can and can't do
WHM for a reseller is a limited version of the server administrator's WHM. You control your own accounts and packages; Domain India controls the server.
| Task | Who does it |
|---|---|
| Create, edit and delete your hosting packages | You, in WHM |
| Create, suspend and unsuspend client cPanel accounts | You, in WHM |
| Change a client's password, package or DNS zone | You, in WHM |
| Terminate client accounts | You, if your plan's privileges include it |
| Server settings (Tweak Settings, Basic WebHost Manager Setup) | Domain India |
| PHP versions installed, Apache and mail server configuration | Domain India |
| AutoSSL provider and schedule | Domain India |
The exact list of WHM menus depends on the privileges attached to your plan. If a function you need is missing, ask support whether your plan includes it.
2. Log in to WHM
- From the client area.Sign in to the client area, open Hosting › My hosting, and click the WHM button on your reseller account's row. WHM opens in a new tab, already signed in.
- Directly.Go to
https://server-hostname:2087and enter your reseller username and password. The hostname, server IP and username are on the account's Manage › Access tab and in your welcome email. - Forgotten the password?Use Reset password on the same Access tab.
Port 2087 is WHM over HTTPS. Use the server hostname rather than the IP address, so the browser shows a valid certificate. See how to log in to cPanel for the same routes on client accounts.
Your reseller login controls every client account under it. Turn on client-area two-factor authentication, use a long unique WHM password, and never share it with clients; give each client their own cPanel login instead.
3. Create hosting packages
A package is a template of limits you apply to client accounts, such as "Basic", "Business" and "Pro".
- Open Packages › Add a Packagein WHM.
- Name the package.WHM adds your reseller username as a prefix, so a package called
basicappears asyourusername_basic. - Set the resources:disk quota, monthly bandwidth, maximum email accounts, databases, addon domains, subdomains and parked domains.
- Leave shell access off.Jailed SSH is available on request per account; clients who need it can ask, and support enables it.
- Click Add.Edit or delete packages later under Packages › Edit a Package.
The total you hand out cannot exceed the disk and account limits of your reseller plan, unless your plan allows overselling. Outgoing mail on Domain India cPanel servers is limited to 200 messages per hour per account, whatever the package says, so plan newsletter-heavy clients accordingly.
4. Create client accounts
- Open Account Functions › Create a New Account.
- Enter the domain,a username (WHM suggests one), a strong password and the client's contact email.
- Choose a packageyou created in step 3.
- Click Create.WHM shows the account's details; send the client their cPanel login, not yours.
- Point the domain at the server. The client's domain must use the nameservers for your account, or an A record pointing at the server IP, before the website and free SSL work.
Nameservers are explained in how do I change my nameservers. Branded nameservers such as ns1.yourbrand.com are covered in setting up private nameservers for resellers; if you want them on a cPanel reseller plan, open a ticket first so we can tell you what your account supports.
5. Manage and monitor accounts
- List Accounts shows every client account with its domain, package, disk use and status, and has a button to open each client's cPanel.
- Manage Account Suspension suspends a client (for example for non-payment) and unsuspends them. A suspended site shows a suspension page, and the files and email are kept.
- Upgrade/Downgrade an Account moves a client to another package.
- Password Modification resets a client's cPanel password.
- Edit DNS Zone changes a client's DNS records when the domain uses your nameservers.
- View Bandwidth Usage shows traffic per account.
Resource faults and limits for individual accounts are explained in understanding hosting resource limits.
6. SSL for client sites
Every client account gets free SSL through AutoSSL, which issues and renews Let's Encrypt certificates at server level. There is nothing for you to configure in WHM. A certificate is issued once the client's domain points at the server. Clients can check the state of each certificate on the Status tab of SSL/TLS Certificates in their cPanel. Neither you nor your clients can run AutoSSL on demand; if a certificate is urgent or keeps failing, open a ticket with the domain name and the exact error line, and support can run it.
7. Backups
JetBackup 5 takes weekly backups of every account on the server, on Sundays, and keeps five copies. Your clients can download or restore their own files, databases, email and more from JetBackup in their cPanel. Restores and downloads run through a queue. See backup and restore with JetBackup.
For clients who change their site often, recommend that they also keep their own copies, for example a download before every major update.
8. Branding and billing
- White label. Your clients get their cPanel logins and their invoices from you, not from Domain India. Where your plan includes WHM's branding options, you can add your logo and company name to cPanel.
- Billing. You set your own prices and bill your clients yourself. A billing system can create accounts automatically through the WHM API, using an API token you create in WHM under Manage API Tokens. Billing software is not included with the reseller plans; licences are bought separately.
- Support. You support your own clients. Domain India supports you with the server, the network and control-panel questions.
9. Domain India cPanel reseller plans
Domain India sells cPanel and DirectAdmin reseller plans, compared side by side on the reseller hosting page with current prices. DirectAdmin reseller plans have no per-account licence cost; cPanel plans suit clients who expect the cPanel interface. Refunds follow our refund policy: new shared and reseller hosting purchases can be refunded in full within 30 days.
Support is on 24/7 live chat, and tickets get a first response within 15 minutes; resolution can take longer. There is no phone support.
How do I log in to WHM on a Domain India reseller account?
Sign in to the client area, open Hosting, My hosting, and click the WHM button on the reseller account. Or go to https://server-hostname:2087 and use the reseller username and password shown on the account's Manage, Access tab.
Can a reseller change Tweak Settings or Basic WebHost Manager Setup?
No. Those are server-wide settings that Domain India manages. A reseller controls their own packages and client accounts.
How do I create a hosting package in WHM?
Open Packages, Add a Package, name the package, set disk, bandwidth, email, database and domain limits, and click Add. WHM prefixes the package name with your reseller username.
Do my clients get free SSL?
Yes. AutoSSL issues and renews free Let's Encrypt certificates for client domains at server level once the domain points at the server. Clients can check them on the Status tab of SSL/TLS Certificates in cPanel.
Are client accounts backed up?
Yes. JetBackup 5 takes weekly backups of every account, on Sundays, and keeps five copies. Clients can restore or download from JetBackup in their own cPanel.
Can I give my clients SSH access?
Jailed SSH access is available on every shared hosting account, but it is off by default. The client, or you on their behalf, asks support to enable it for that account.
How many emails can a client account send?
Outgoing mail on Domain India cPanel servers is limited to 200 messages per hour per account.
