You can back up and restore your Domain India website in two ways: with the weekly backups that come with your hosting, or with your own copy of your files and databases taken whenever you like. On cPanel and DirectAdmin both jobs run through JetBackup 5 in your control panel.

For the full guide

This is a short summary. For step-by-step instructions, see how can I download a backup of my site and backup and restore with JetBackup.

Key takeaways

Domain India shared hosting includes backups on every plan, weekly on cPanel and DirectAdmin and nightly on Webuzo; there is no separate backup product to buy. On cPanel and DirectAdmin, open JetBackup 5, pick a backup date, and choose Restore or Download. Before any big change, also take your own copy: download your files and export each database in phpMyAdmin.

1. The backups included with your hosting

Control panelBackup toolSchedule
cPanelJetBackup 5, in the Files sectionWeekly, on Sunday; the last 5 copies are kept
DirectAdminJetBackup 5Weekly, on Sunday; the last 5 copies are kept
WebuzoDomain India's server backups; restores through a support ticketEvery night

Within each control panel, the schedule is the same on every plan. cPanel's own Backup and Backup Wizard pages are switched off on our servers, so use JetBackup 5.

2. Restore your website with JetBackup 5

  1. Open JetBackup 5
    in cPanel or DirectAdmin.
  2. Choose what to restore:
Full Account, Home Directory (files), Databases, Email Accounts, or settings such as cron jobs and DNS zones.
  3. Pick a date
    from before the problem started.
  4. Select the items and choose Restore.
The job goes into JetBackup's queue; wait for it to finish before you test the site.

A restore replaces the current copy with the one from the backup date, so newer changes in that part can be lost. Download the current state first if you might need anything from it.

3. Download a backup

Pick the backup type and date in JetBackup 5 and choose Download instead of Restore. JetBackup prepares a compressed archive in the background; save it from the downloads list when it is ready.

4. Take your own copy at any time

A zip of public_html is not a WordPress backup

WordPress keeps posts, pages, users and orders in the database. Always export the database too, and keep the files and the database from the same day together.

To restore your own copy, upload the files with the File Manager or FTP and import the .sql file in phpMyAdmin.

5. Good habits

  • Back up before every update, plugin install, theme change or migration.
  • Keep copies off the server, on your computer and in cloud storage, and keep several dates.
  • Open a backup archive once in a while to check the files and database are really there.
  • If your site was hacked, read what to do if your website has been hacked before restoring, because a recent backup may already contain the infection.

Frequently asked questions

How often is my Domain India website backed up?

Every Domain India shared hosting plan includes backups: weekly on cPanel and DirectAdmin, and every night on Webuzo. On cPanel and DirectAdmin, JetBackup 5 takes the backup every Sunday and keeps the last 5 copies.

Do higher plans get daily backups?

No. The schedule depends on the control panel, not the plan: weekly on cPanel and DirectAdmin, and every night on Webuzo. There is no separate backup product or add-on. For more frequent copies, export your files and databases yourself or use a backup plugin that works in pure PHP.

How do I restore my website?

On cPanel or DirectAdmin, open JetBackup 5, choose what to restore (the full account, files, a database or email), pick a date from before the problem, and choose Restore. On Webuzo, open a support ticket saying what to restore and from which date. A restore replaces the current copy of what you restore.

Why can't I find the Backup Wizard in cPanel?

On Domain India cPanel servers, cPanel's own Backup and Backup Wizard pages are switched off. Use JetBackup 5 in the Files section to download or restore a backup.
