A new AI Website Builder site first runs on a free preview link. To give it a proper address like www.yourbusiness.in, you connect a domain you already own. This guide shows where the setting is, which DNS records the editor asks for, and how to fix the usual problems. Prices are Domain India list prices from the live pricing card on 23 September 2026, excluding 18% GST.

Key takeaways

Publish your site on a paid plan first. Then open the editor's Settings tab, go to Custom domain, type your domain and click Save. The editor shows the exact records to add. Add them wherever your domain's DNS is managed today, wait for DNS to update, and click Verify. SSL is issued automatically, and you do not need to change nameservers.

1. Before you start

You need three things:

  • A paid plan. The free plan runs on a preview link only. Connecting your own domain is included on Starter, Pro and Business.
  • A published site. The Custom domain box stays locked until your site has been published. The editor says "Publish your site first to add a custom domain."
  • A domain you own, and access to its DNS. That means the login for wherever the domain's DNS records are edited: your hosting control panel, or your registrar or DNS provider.

Don't have a domain yet? You can register one. A new domain is bought separately from the builder plan.

2. Add your domain in the editor

  1. Open your site.
Log in and go to AI Website Builder in the client area, then open the site you want to connect.
  2. Open Settings.
The editor has five tabs: Chat, Content, Design, Grow and Settings. Click Settings and find the Custom domain box.
  3. Type your domain.
Enter it in the Domain name field, for example www.yourbusiness.in or yourbusiness.in, and click Save.
  4. Copy the records.
The editor shows a small table with the record type, host and value to add. Keep the tab open.
  5. Add the records at your DNS.
See section 3 for where to add them.
  6. Verify.
Once DNS has updated, click Verify. The box's label changes from Pending to Active, and it says "Live — your site is on" followed by your domain. If the records aren't visible yet, the editor says so; wait a while and click Verify again.

3. Which records, and where to add them

The records depend on the address you connect:

You connectRecord the editor showsNotes
Your main domain (yourbusiness.in)A recordsThe www form also uses A records, so both addresses agree
The www address (www.yourbusiness.in)A recordsThe editor recommends adding the second record too, so both addresses work
A subdomain (shop.yourbusiness.in)One CNAME recordIt points at your site's address shown in the editor

Always copy the values from your own editor screen. Don't reuse values from another site or an old guide.

Add the records wherever your domain's DNS is managed today:

  • Your domain uses our hosting nameservers: add them in the zone editor of your hosting control panel.
  • Your DNS is with your registrar or another DNS provider: add them in that provider's DNS settings.

Not sure which? Look up which nameservers your domain uses. What is a nameserver explains how to check, or ask support. For step-by-step help with the records themselves, read Setting up DNS for the AI Website Builder.

If the editor sees that the domain is registered with Domain India and already uses our DNS, it offers a button to add the records for you. Your email and nameservers are not changed. If you don't see that button, add the records yourself as above.

Don't change your nameservers for this

You only need to add the records the editor shows. Changing nameservers moves all of your domain's DNS, including email and subdomains, to a new provider. If those records aren't copied first, your email stops working.

4. SSL and search engines

You don't need to buy or install a certificate. Once the domain points at your site, SSL is issued automatically and the site opens on https://. It can take a little while after the domain first connects, so if the padlock is missing, wait and try again later.

Your site's search settings move to the new address too. The sitemap and canonical links use your domain, so submit the new address to Google Search Console. How to configure SEO settings covers this.

5. When the domain doesn't connect

The box says "Needs attention" and that the domain "no longer points to us". The editor shows the addresses your domain currently resolves to and the addresses it should use. Fix the A record at your DNS provider, then click Re-verify.

Nothing changes after adding the records. DNS changes usually show within a few hours but can take up to a day or two. Check that you edited the zone your nameservers actually use. Editing records at a provider your domain doesn't point to has no effect.

The old website still shows. You probably have an old A record (or an AAAA record for IPv6) for the same name. Remove the old records for that name so that only the values the editor shows remain.

www works but the plain domain doesn't, or the other way round. Add the second record the editor recommends so both forms point at your site.

You want a different domain. In the Custom domain box, click Remove, then add the new domain and its records. Your site content doesn't change.

Frequently asked questions

Can I connect a domain on the free plan?

No. The free plan runs on a preview link. Connecting your own domain needs a paid plan (Starter, Pro or Business), and the site must be published first.

Where is the custom domain setting?

In the editor, open the Settings tab and find the Custom domain box. Type your domain, click Save, and the editor shows the records to add.

Do I need to change my nameservers?

No, and we recommend against it. Add only the records the editor shows. Changing nameservers moves all of your DNS, including email.

How long does it take?

DNS changes usually appear within a few hours but can take up to a day or two. Click Verify in the Custom domain box once the records are in place.

Is SSL included?

Yes. SSL is issued automatically once your domain points at the site. There is nothing to buy or install.

Can I use a subdomain like shop.mybusiness.in?

Yes. For a subdomain the editor shows a single CNAME record that points at your site's address.
