If you arrived here to install "VistaCP" on a VPS, stop before you run any script. We could not find a maintained, documented control panel by that name, and the installer this page used to recommend can't be verified. CentOS, the other half of the old title, has also reached end of life. This page explains what to use instead on a current server.
Don't install VistaCP: there is no maintained, documented panel by that name whose installer we can verify, and running an unverified script as root hands your server to whoever controls it. If you meant VestaCP, it is abandoned; its maintained successor is HestiaCP. On a Domain India VPS you can choose no panel, CyberPanel, Webuzo or DirectAdmin at checkout. Install any panel on a supported OS such as Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Debian, AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux, never on CentOS.
For a full comparison of current control panels, what each costs and which ones Domain India offers at checkout, read Choosing the best control panel for your VPS.
1. Why we removed the old installation steps
The old version of this page told readers to download install.sh from a website and run it as root, then log in on port 8080. We have withdrawn those steps because:
- We can't verify the panel or the script. A control panel runs as root and faces the internet. Installing one without a maintained project, published documentation and security updates is a serious risk.
- Names get confused. "VistaCP" is easily mixed up with VestaCP, a panel that is no longer maintained and whose official installer was compromised in 2018 to plant malware on servers. Neither is a safe choice for a new server.
- CentOS Linux has reached end of life and gets no security updates, so no new server should run it.
Only install a control panel from its official, documented source, on a supported OS, and read what the installer does first. If a server is already running an abandoned panel, plan a move to a maintained one; don't keep it exposed to the internet.
2. What to use instead
| If you wanted | Use | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| A free VestaCP-style panel | HestiaCP | The maintained fork of VestaCP. Runs on Debian and Ubuntu, not on AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux. |
| A free panel for WordPress | CyberPanel | Available at checkout on a Domain India VPS. Keep it fully updated. |
| A traditional hosting panel with email | DirectAdmin | Paid licence; available at checkout on a Domain India VPS. |
| A single-user panel with one-click apps | Webuzo | Paid licence; available at checkout on a Domain India VPS. |
| To deploy apps with Git or Docker | No panel | Less overhead and less to patch. |
Whichever panel you choose, check its own documentation for the operating systems it supports before you install it, and start from a fresh OS.
3. Safe first steps on any new VPS
- Pick a supported OS.Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Debian 12 or later, or AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux 9 or later, matching your panel's support list.
- Update everything.
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -yon Ubuntu or Debian, orsudo dnf upgrade -yon AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux. - Secure SSH.Log in with a key, create a sudo user and turn off password login. See the SSH security hardening checklist.
- Install the panel from its official documentation, then restrict the panel's login port to your own IP address where the panel allows it, and turn on two-factor login.

4. Control panels on a Domain India VPS
Domain India VPS plans are self-managed KVM servers with full root access. At checkout you can choose no control panel, CyberPanel, Webuzo or DirectAdmin; cPanel isn't offered on our VPS plans. Choosing one of these keeps you on a panel from a known, maintained vendor, which avoids the risks above. If you don't want to run a server at all, shared hosting with a managed control panel may suit you better.
- 1 vCPU
- 2 GB DDR4 RAM
- 64 GB NVMe SSD Storage
- 2 TB Monthly Bandwidth

Is VistaCP safe to install?
We can't recommend it. We could not find a maintained, documented control panel called VistaCP, and running an unverified installer as root puts the whole server at risk. Choose a maintained panel instead.
Is VestaCP still maintained?
No. VestaCP is no longer maintained, and its official installer was compromised in 2018. HestiaCP is the maintained successor with a similar interface.
Can I still install a control panel on CentOS?
You shouldn't. CentOS Linux has reached end of life and gets no security updates. Use Ubuntu LTS, Debian, AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux, according to the panel's support list.
Which control panels can I choose on a Domain India VPS?
At checkout you can choose no control panel, CyberPanel, Webuzo or DirectAdmin. cPanel is not offered on Domain India VPS plans.
Does Domain India manage the control panel on my VPS?
No. Domain India VPS plans are self-managed, so you keep the operating system and any control panel updated.
