After your SSL certificate is installed, there is little to manage on Domain India Windows hosting: Plesk renews free Let's Encrypt certificates on its own. This page covers the jobs that do come up: checking expiry, reissuing, replacing or removing a certificate, and what to do when renewal fails.
Everything is on the SSL/TLS Certificates page for your domain in Plesk. Let's Encrypt certificates renew automatically while the domain points at your hosting; if one fails, fix DNS and reissue it from that page. The certificate your site actually uses is the one selected in Hosting Settings. Certificates uploaded from another provider must be renewed by you.
Start with our complete guide, installing SSL in Plesk. It covers the free Let's Encrypt certificate, webmail and mail, the HTTPS redirect and troubleshooting.
1. See what is installed and when it expires
In Plesk, open Websites & Domains, then SSL/TLS Certificates for the domain. You'll see the certificates stored for it and whether the site, webmail and mail are secured. Click a certificate for its validity dates. In the browser, the padlock shows the same dates for whatever the site is serving right now.
2. Reissue or add names
To add www, webmail or mail to a Let's Encrypt certificate, or to fix one that failed to renew, reissue it from the SSL/TLS Certificates page with the right options ticked. The domain and every name you tick must point at your hosting. Let's Encrypt limits how many certificates you can request for a domain in a short time, so fix DNS first rather than retrying repeatedly.
3. When automatic renewal fails
Plesk emails the address on the certificate if renewal fails. The usual causes:
- the domain or
wwwno longer points at your Windows hosting; - a proxy such as Cloudflare, or a firewall, blocks the check on port 80;
- a rewrite rule in
web.configredirects the check request somewhere else.
Fix the cause, then reissue. If it still fails, open a ticket with the domain name.
4. Replace or remove a certificate
- Replace: add or upload the new certificate, then select it in the domain's Hosting Settings and save. The site uses only the certificate selected there.
- Remove: first select a different certificate in Hosting Settings, then delete the old one from SSL/TLS Certificates. Removing the one in use breaks HTTPS for your visitors.
- Certificates from another provider don't renew themselves. Renew with the provider before expiry, upload the new certificate with its CA bundle, and select it.
Menu labels can change between Plesk updates; if you can't find one, ask support.
Do Let's Encrypt certificates renew automatically in Plesk?
Yes. Plesk renews them before they expire, as long as the domain still points at your Domain India Windows hosting and nothing blocks the check on port 80.
How do I check when my SSL certificate expires?
In Plesk, open SSL/TLS Certificates for the domain and click the certificate, or click the padlock in your browser and view the certificate details.
How do I replace an SSL certificate in Plesk?
Add or upload the new certificate on the SSL/TLS Certificates page, then select it in the domain's Hosting Settings and save. Remove the old one only after the new one is selected.
What should I do if SSL renewal fails?
Check that the domain and www still point at your hosting and that no proxy or rewrite rule blocks the check, then reissue the certificate from the SSL/TLS Certificates page. If it still fails, open a support ticket.
