Delete your DOMAIN INDIA account
This page explains how to ask us to delete your DOMAIN INDIA account and the data held with it, what we remove, and what we have to keep.
How to request deletion
- If you can sign in: open Support in your account, raise a new ticket, and title it Account deletion request. Raising it from your own account is the fastest route, because it proves the request came from you.
- If you cannot sign in: email us at [email protected] from the email address registered on the account, with Account deletion request as the subject.
- We confirm it is you. We will reply to the registered email address to verify the request before anything is deleted. We do not act on a deletion request we cannot verify — that protects you from someone else deleting your account and the domains in it.
We acknowledge requests within 7 working days.
Settle your active services first
Deleting your account does not cancel a domain registration, and we cannot delete the ownership record of a domain that is still registered to you — registry rules, not ours. Before we can close an account, any live services need to be dealt with:
- Domains — transfer them to another registrar, or let them reach their expiry date. A deleted account cannot renew a domain, and an unrenewed domain is eventually released for anyone to register.
- Hosting, email and other services — take a copy of anything you want to keep. Once the account closes, that data is gone and we cannot restore it for you.
Tell us in the ticket what you want done, and we will confirm each service before closing anything.
What we delete
- Your name, email address, phone number and postal address
- Company name and tax registration details held on the account
- Account preferences and saved settings
- Support tickets and their contents
- Sign-in records, including the last sign-in IP address
- Website, email and application data on services you hold with us
Deleted data is removed from our live systems immediately and purged from backups within 30 days.
What we have to keep, and why
A few records survive account deletion because the law or a registry contract requires it. We keep the minimum, and we do not use it for anything else:
- Invoices and payment records — accounting and tax law requires us to retain them.
- Domain registration records — stored for as long as the registry contract for that domain requires.
- Security and access logs — retained for a minimum of 180 days under CERT-In directions.
Questions
If anything here is unclear, or you disagree with how we have handled a request, contact us at [email protected]. Our Privacy Policy names the Grievance Officer and how to escalate.
